are you trying too hard ? just relax and it'll happen one day. i was forever trying and thought it would be on a left hander as thats my preffered bend,i was gobsmacked when my first knee down experience was at redgate as i wasnt trying there and ddint expect it to happen at a right handerColin wrote:I'm always trying![]()
Think i'm going to have to get myself a minimoto cause thats the only way my knee is going to touch tarmac

Re: Popped my KD cherry!
no worries mate, positioning does make a difference, weirdly the thing that helped me was to actually look through the corner past the apex as that gets your body in a better position
whens your next trackday ?

Re: Popped my KD cherry!
Thanks and i agree about differing riding positions.Although ive never been on track i can imagine being on a smooth surface without worrying about oncoming vehicles or debris you can really push yourself and getting your knee down would be a useful technique.deej wrote:you probably will have the wrong position when riding on the road as you cant carry as much corner speed or wide sweeping lines like you would on track where you can ride it more textbook.when playing on the roads on the ccm i hang off completely differently to how i ride the zx10 on track.
everyone has there own style and fair play to him for getting his knee down on a vfr750 that takes some doing if youve never got your knee down before. now its time to refine the style and enjoy getting the knee down
On the roads i am much faster when i concentrate on positioning and lines rather than hanging off as low as possible.i still have a bumcheek off the seat and face near the mirror, but my knee is normally only 8inch or so away from the tank.
Bikeless again :/

Re: Popped my KD cherry!
if i had a road bike i would mate
few tips to try
foot off the side of the peg so you can pivot easier
move your whole body, not just your arse off
look as far through the corner as you can
if on a roundabout a low as gear as possible so the bike turns easier
gentle on the throttle helps too
quick shot so you can see what im talking about

Re: Popped my KD cherry!
my mate has a similair problem even though he can get his knee down.he chucks his ass off the seat and then puts his shoulder over the tank to mcounter balance the knee out style which is then making the bike unstable

Re: Popped my KD cherry!
Well today (for the first time) I got my knee and peg down
. Bring on the good weather!
Re: Popped my KD cherry!
Been thinking about this for a while, I don't tend to hang off, I prefer a inline lean because im more comfortable like that at the moment. But looking at some pics from llandow I think that i cant lean any further, got my peg down on most corners and wore through my toe slider. Like if i hung off would i be close to KD.

Re: Popped my KD cherry!
Hey well done jonny mate, its a good feeling innit
Steve,Im surprised you didnt lose the front end with that website jammed underneath it.
you certainly got the lean angle, though you might struggle to get your knee down more than you would on a sports bike due to the seat height and riding position.
Mind you, youre a lanky sod like me so you should be able to gets those pins on the floor

Re: Popped my KD cherry!
Pre 9AM Kneedown is where its at. Had great fun after the Early morning run on Sunday
It took me years to get into hanging off, one I never had any leathers and my first bike (Aprilia RS125) was very light and used to get extremely unsettled when hanging off on bumpy (read: normal) roads. Unless you're going mega fast on the roads then knee down isnt needed and will probably slow you down. For us non riding gods hanging off just shows the pathetic lean angles even more
atleast sitting upright makes it feel like you're lent over
Helps massively on the track though as you'll very quickly run out of clearance.
Steve-D, did you see Torpedo in the Inters on his rough old GS500, he was knee down on most corners, no excuses now

Re: Popped my KD cherry!
steve d if you lean off the bike further and reposition your body it shouldnt be a problem
got to admit there was some serious lean angles being seen at llandow and i was wondering how the heck people stayed on,gavs got a few of the black cbr6 in the inters and in the photos he looks like a crash waiting to happen

I still can’t get my knee down
Perhaps I should go faster
Or is it because people keep getting in my way
