i can quite understand not cycling, especially in the winter, but by the time you've got all yer kit on and the bike outta the garage you would almost be pulling in to college. and you'll be saving wear on the ped
as far as warming up goes i will let the bike idle until choke off and then ride it steady untill full op temp
change oil regular intervals
and unless your riding further than needed purely for pleasure it wont save any engine wear as your putting more miles on it
running in is the same effect as riding hard from cold, if you rag it from the crate it will end up with more horsepower (quite often on a blade or similar about 10 - 12hp) but more wear.

If the Divvy is funked why not use the ZX4, I take it you didnt sell the Div on Flea bay then?
Otherwise as for warm up I'm reliably informed that an engine warms up quicker with a bit of resistence so start up and ride sensibly for a couple of miles. So that means only rag it onyour way into tyhe college car park past the Corsa Chavs, and when going home do 1/2 dozen circuits of the car park before going the long way home

Oil & filters are akin to your blood and kidneys! The higher the quality = the better for the engine
I believe it's simple mechanical logic, the bores are running with no lube when starting from cold and can easily be running dry until the oil pressure is up.
So.... no lube, no protection, straight metal to metal contact and immediate scoring and worn out before time
She is your best friend so treat her kind & keep her sweet - spend that little extra on the oil, original filter - and - time to warm up a little

Only takes me about a minute to get ready, only wear jacket, boots, gloves helmet for short trips. I've paid enough for insurance I'm bloody well gonna use it
Planning on changing the oil + filter every 3k done 2 already in just over a month.
So are oem filters better than aftermarket ones such as k&n because thats what I'm using at the moment, with a little magnet on it to keep any metal out of the engine, apparently anyway dunno if its true.

I'm far to mature to be doing that
ZX4 is in bits at a garage, had a bit of interest in the divvy but nothing serious, a half done streetfighter isn't the most appealing prospect really.

Might keep it and put a new engine in it in the summer, can get a low mileage one for about 150-200 quid. Just absoloutly skint at the moment. Will look awesome when its finished and its got about 3/400 quids worth of fabricating on it + all the bits I've already bought.

Looked into it a bit, I reckon a fz750 lump would go in ok. its a pretty big space so I reckon if you tried hard enough you could get most things in there.
