Ok, so theres a difference between bikers, REAL bikers, and FAKE bikers now?

I ride about 15000 miles a year, all weathers, every day of the week, on 2 different bikes, wearing all sorts of gear, textiles, one piece etc, go on several trips away each year on the bike, am currently building a special, planning a few trackdays, further training etc, dont own a car or any other transport, have a garage full of bike crap etc.

So am I a biker or a REAL biker? Or a FAKE biker?

But its funny, I dont even care, cus I love it no matter what anyone wants to call me 8)

Sadly, (and it grates on me to admit this), then if what you say is true, then you are a biker

But not a REAL biker?

Why not?

Why not a FAKE biker?

I like this, quite happy that it grates on you to say that I'm a biker

Because as I said, I do not know how to define REAL biker

As I said.

If I put a pair of running shoes and a tracksuit one a week to run around the block - can I call myself an athlete ?

If I take a set of Jet ski's out on the odd Sunny Sunday - can I call my self a mariner ?

If I go to the skating rink at the weekend, should I call myself a skater ?

If I do a bit of angling in my free time, - can I call myself a fisherman ?

Of course not.

So why should someone who keeps their bike in the garage nearly all year and bring it out once in a blue moon, be called a Biker  :?

I haven't used the term REAL BIKER in reference to anyone else.

As I said, the word real, is what I have a problem with.

It's like saying, who's the real athlete ?

The 100 meter sprinter or the marathon runner ?

In this context, the word real, does not enter into it because they are both athletes.

Answer this question.

If I wear the same running shoes and gear as they do, and go out jogging once a week, would you think that entitles me to call myself an athlete and rank myself as their equals ?

If the answer to that is no, then you've answered your own question :D

If for instance, I come into a nice bit of money.. and decided I wanted to spend £10k+ on a nice new Ducati.. and then I spent £1000+ on a new suit.. but I didnt ever want to get the bike wet in the rain or covered in road crap.. and only rode it on sunny days for a few weeks of each year.. does that no longer make me a REAL biker?

The same biker that very nearly died from a motorcycle accident only 5 months ago, and now is already back on a bike even before my back has healed and I still have 2 broken ribs from the 12 I broke which are constantly stabbing into my lung causing at times causing me excrucating chest pains..

Er, I would say an athlete competes in his sport, no matter what it is. The clothes hardly matter :? . I'd call you a runner.

I consider my Wife more of a Biker than me, and she doesn't even ride - she just sits patiently on the back and enjoys every minute.

No bad considering that when we had a big accident T boning a U turning car many years ago, I was un hurt, but she had to undergoe four major operations in two weeks, including having a metal plate screwed permanently into her spine.

It's about passion and dedication.

Just wanting to be on the bike every moment you can, even in bad weather.

Not because you feel duty bound, but because you just love it.

That's what the bike owning non biker cannot understand.

I dunno, i dont really think you can pigeonhole the term biker in the same way you can say an athlete, to me it is literally one who rides a bike.
Even if its only for one day of the year,if you're riding a bike you're a biker.

I can see where youre coming from about wannabes and poseurs but i think youre using the term biker in the wrong context. If youre referring to one who rides a bike in a manner they profess otherwise i.e. "im faster than rossi" (but only rides like shaky learner) then i think the term would be a Bullsh*tter! Theyre still a biker though
Bikeless again :/

Sorry but I cannot agree with that.
Surely, if you are a biker, then biking is your life.
I cannot see how someone who claims to be passionate about anything, can call themselves an enthusiast when they hardly ever do the activity they claim to be passionate about.

That's just absurd

No.

The word "driver" is equivalent to the word "rider"

Yes, if you ride a bike, you are a rider, but a biker is something very different.
