you have been riding to long you need a break from motorcycling, the onset of senior years is clouding your perspective...very soon, as sure as your ability to ride a bike has detoriated over the last few years, it will be a blessing not to p iss your pants let alone competently ride a bike

So by your mid 40's, you are passed it and too old.

Big deal
When I was couriering I was doing about 35,000 miles a year.
Anyway I didn't ask about mileage.
Perhaps you newbies are using that to compensate for your lack of years riding ?
Hmmmmmm

i'm going to become famous for inventing a device that allows you to stab people in the face over the internet
waiting for the "ooh, so you're threatening me now" esque response

If you insist... 31 years this June, owned at least one bike all that time, on road, off road, raced (pots to show for it)...
So Stately, by your inane criterion, I am indeed much more of a
riding god than you are so kindly shut the f*ck up and stop dick swinging.
In your mere 27 riding years you'd have done well to have attended some adult education classes to brush up your grammar, it's pretty poor.
You may be nothing more than a wind-up merchant, trying to elicit a reaction from people by being provocative. If you are not simply a wind-up merchant, you may be instead someone with deep-seated insecurities, a big chip on your shoulder and a desperate need to prove yourself to be superior to others by bragging and bullying.
Whatever you reasons, one thing is immutable. You, sir, are a c0ck.
End of.

A good argument well made. Excellently put Scotty.
You see stately, this is a perfect example of wat I tried to point out elsewhere. You take an interesting question, gets some honest and interesting answers, then twist them to antagonise rather than inform.
Of course off-road riding counts - it gives both the ability to ride without having to think of which control does what before venturing forth on the road (the basic purpose of CBT) and the ability to feel what the bike is doing as it moves around under you.
Of course mileage counts - someone who has done 10k in one year will be far more in tune with their machine and it's capabilities than someone who has only done 2k a year for 5yrs
Regarding BAB's, yes there is an obvious issue of underestimating the power, speed and handling of a modern bike compared to what they used to ride, but if they have been doing average miles in a car in that period they will still hve an element of roadcraft and understanding of driving on modern roads that someone who has never driven before can ever have.
Please consider your answers and the way in which they will be taken before responding.
Oh, and 27yrs and never without a bike since buying the first

My first ride on the road was the day I bought my first motorbike (CG125) and immediately rode it back to Exeter from Bridford

I'm 21 now, I rode bikes offroad pre-16 years old..
Playing with motorbikes as a child does not count as
on road biking experience.
As you're 21, and the legal age to start riding on road 1s 16, I'll put you down as 5 yrs.
i'm sorry, where did you say that the experience had to be 'on road' ?
where does it say this ?
can you provide evidence of this statement ?
i find it hard to believe that you have written this
I NEED PROOF !!!!
20 years this year

He's a troll. Dick swinging for trolls involves getting long threads under their caps, the content is immaterial. It's a troll badge of honour.

Started riding at 16, passed test at 17 in 1982, so riding for 27 years, with no breaks.
I dont at present have a complete bike, but do have 186 bikes in bits in my back yard, including I think around 90 engines
6 years of which I was as a motorcycle instructor and 4 years as an Advanced Rider Observer, oh and did courier work as well.
So am I a real biker ??
