I paid £15 for it ( 4wks wages). The body had rusted away from the chassis so was drooping on N/S/R so I jacked it up with a bit of 2"x2" under the petrol filler pipe and carried on using it. Of course before MOTs when anything was considered OK. People ran tyres until the canvas showed and even then carried on until it went pop before they put on the spare which was probably bald already. I can remember travelling in cars you could see the road through the floor.
Ahhhhh those were the days when every journey was an adventure.

Great days indeed. I recall brother pulling away from the petrol pumps and falling over backwards as the seat came away from the floor. Managed to stop it safely.

We also had our first bit of (unrestricted) M-way, being 2 miles of M5 J16 - 17. On Sundays, all sorts of heaps roared up and down trying to do a ton. Brother has a Zephyr 6 and his mate a Cresta. Also crims in Mk 2 Jags. Oil and bits of engines everywhere.

My first car was a MK4 Toyota Supra [It didn't look like that when I got it, I "build" this car].

Escort Mk2 estate, in Gold ( ish)! Got it off my brother, filled all the rust holes then sprayed the repairs with multi coloured splat designs !

Back floor rotted out of that one too !

Was young and needed a run about as I've never been out of work since 14 years old so managed to pick up a fiat strada 65cl I think it was tuning on just 3 pistons and more rust than metal but she started and got me to work 40 miles away every day!

My first car was a p reg Datsun 120y coupe. Red ( brush painted ) it ended up in the scrap yard when the rear suspension spring hangers came through the boot floor

Still better than my first car: Chrysler Sunbeam (No it isn't a Talbot Horizion), 1.6, twin Strongbergs,TI cam/valve springs, slightly lowered, wide Ford Steels wheels and 2nd hand tyres - it went sideways well at quite in appropriate times usually upsetting XR3 owners, this was in 1988 mind.
