jeez, this has got slightly out of control hasn't it? I suppose humour & jest doesn't always come across well in type, but there was no serious intent in Steve's comment.

Steve hasn't been party to prior discussions about the trip, so clearly wasn't up to speed on what peoples aspirations for the trip were. The comment about splitting into groups was a simple response to a "light hearted" comment I made, nothing more. If one actually pays attention to what he wrote, he says he is more than happy to go with the flow.

ok maybe things have but I was under the impression that this was nick's trip and what he says goes so to speak and at all relevant discussions this was a bimble/tour on the way down and do what you like when your there and then all meet up for dinner kind of trip ???? (no fruit bowls people its not that kind of trip)
this is for some there first euro trip so we all have to look after everyone and consider everyone equally

if just joining a already pre planed trip DO NOT jump in and start trying to change the core aspects of the whole thing which is a group of like minded people enjoying there bikes on good roads in great company with a bit of banter and a few glasses of vino and lots of laughs (like Shropshire top job mrs s)

from a personal point of view sarah s a very inexperienced pillion and I do not want to scare her off from future trips on the bike so am a little over protective of the fact that its a BIMBLE I know most that are going on the trip and respect there riding styles and capabilities and are all under the impression that its a bimble not a race having said that I am an ok rider and am sure the pace will not be super slow

yes i do do some track days but this does not mean I am a good road rider two up with luggage my apologies if I have taken anything out of context but I know I am not the only that has !!!!
so theres the olive branch steve if this still sounds like your bag then join in

Deffo more bimbleage for me ! I shall be on my holibobs and enjoying the ride, the view and the company

As for "like minded people" and "fruit bowls" hang on a cotton pickin' minute!!!!!!!! (Though, apparently...scabby Ford keys are where it's at )

Thanks Mark As I said, I had taken the comment as a response to my "poking fun at the new-boy", rather than a serious suggestion.

Although organised (extremely well) by Nick, I would like to think of it as OUR trip .... i.e. a GROUP thing - not one individual or another's trip ........ it's supposed to be about collective enjoyment? (equally with nothing to do with keys & fruit-bowls )

I would prefer most of the trip to be a group thing, rather than a bunch of individuals sharing a B&B? The rides to and from the ferry are anticipated very much as group rides - no-ones leaves anyone behind. If pace is an issue for folks on other rides whilst there, routes can be planned to accommodate all desires from racers to plodders by letting people do their own thing en-route, but with agreed meet-up destinations?

Otherwise I would expect things to follow normal ride-out routine - respectfull speeds in towns/villages, with perhaps a little more in the open areas, but certainly no going mad with the speed limits and attracting the attentions of every Gendarme in North West France (I don't know the french phrase for "BamBam would appreciate your attentions more than me, Bubba" whilst stuck in a French jail ) Likewise, folks would be expected to keep the person behind in vision in the rear view mirrors (which is a joke for me, if I take the MV, as they just give a great view of my knee ) to ensure no-one IS left behind .....

So, lets get things back on course, with everyone getting excited about going away on the bikes (and remember, a little nervous excitement is good for the soul) and me worrying about how I'm gonna find a way to carry at least a pair of spare kek's on the MV (or do I drag out the TL and get the Frenchies ducking for cover thinking the Luftwaffe are coming back )

Reading on at the bottom of the page from Layne's ukfrancebikers link, there is an article of '3 safety reminders for UK bikers riding in France'.
The thing I did not know or had ever heard about is "It is still illegal to filter through slow moving or stationary traffic in France ".

Can you imagine trying to enforce that rule in Paris.

Hi Guys, have done a little mooching about and reckon this is quite a decent guide. As said before, it's up to the individual what they decide to or not to carry but don't let it effect the group if you choose to ignore the advice/list.

Near Alencon, if you look it up, 15 minutes from there.

To check other details on riding in France have a look at BCFR site.

Reflective jacket not required, Breathalyser yes, but there is no fine if you don't, typical French.
