thats one wobbly looking arm, get well soon......

Looking at that pic of the arm brought me right back to 15 years ago when i did exactly the same thing. Except the car was driving forward.

Its amazing how quickly it swells

Broke my arm and dislocated my wrist.

For some reason they plastered right up to my shoulder nearly and still to this day i have prob with elbow lock from where it was kept at that angle for 6 weeks.

Heres to a speedy recovery mate

He-he ..... I've had arms that look like that in the past (School Rugby, Bicycle, and Trail bike ) Good to hear it's on the way to recovery, and sad to see the piccies - thats a lot of plastic damage

Bit of T-cut it'l be fine.

what a waste of a great bike! hope it gets sorted! they did mine even though it needed rear subframe! Was looking at new ones at bridge though cos I didn't think they'd do it so was a bit gutted lmao
hope wrist healed well babe and bikes sorted with no hassles!

your break looks a hell of a lot like mine, i knocked the top bit (and a few more bits) off the radius and dislocated the ulnar

Well my worst thoughts have rung true She's a write-off...

And to make matters worse I now understand why paying monthly for your insurance is a very, very bad idea...
I've not only lost my pride & joy, I found out just now I owe the best part of £1000+ to the finance company that covered my preimum...


Note to me: Don't buy exspensive things... It all ends in tears...

On a happy'er note though my RS is back up and running, for now anyway, seems a little tempermental LOL!

Main thing is that your ok though really ! Shame about the bike, was a very nice bike ! And thats crap about the insruance, they are b'stards !

How the feck can it be right off when its cosmetic damage???....i take it there aint any other damage other than what you're showing us??

Damage I could find:
Lights destroyed, front fairing totalled, side (front area) damaged, clocks dead, screen gone, knackered RamAir and break set snapped... But I think the killer was the chip to the frame... that was the nail in the coffin.

I wish I didn't bother with telling my insurance, just changed my bike over and fixed it on the side... It's caused me so much trouble this way and so, soo much money...

I had a chap I know from Kawasaki Bristol come check it out for me too, he said it was gonna be on the fine line between repair and a goner.


P.S.If anyone knows if there is a way to not have to pay back the rest of my premium please let me know... Personally I think I've suffered enough but Red Star/Express Insurance don't see it that way.

There might be a way ...... but it may take some effort and persuading, and also requires you to be farily competent at putting things together ......

Fight them writing it off! Can the mark on the frame be re-painted? Could some of the plastics be replaced/repaired cheaper? If you can convince them that the costs of repair can be brought below the "write-off" level, the bike gets re-built AND the policy remains valid because they have not made a total loss

Worth a shot at compromise if it saves a lot of money

why not buy the written off bike back from them, fix it up and then sell it or even keep it ?

The problem is the (seemingly very expensive) insurance policy will still stop the minute they pay out .....

Hi Monk,

I suggest you have a look on evil-bay and see how much, of what you need, is available. (you won't be able to get an exact costing, but a pretty good idea)
Not all damaged bikes get frontal damage, so you may be lucky and find parts from something that's been rear ended.( DON'T search under 'Gay Males' )

What exactly do you mean, when you say 'chip to the frame', can you post a pic ? I might be able to repair it for you!
as long as the frame is not twisted.

You might have a fight on your hands though, trying to buy the bike from the Insurance Company, as these days they only tend to sell the salvage on via an approved auction. (this is to try and stop the 'ringers')
Most of the salvage is auctioned through 'Bluecycle'. If your insurance refuses to sell it to you and you want the bike back, let me know and I will keep an eye out for it. Then I can let you know if it shows up.

You should also ask your insurance why the bike was written off. Was it beyond ecconomic repair or because the frame was damaged?
If it was because the repair cost was too high, ask for the estimated cost £. ( all parts required would have been priced at full retail + top labour rates )
Ask them what they would be prepared to pay for the repair? and if you could get an estimate within that budget, would they accept it?
You should be able to find someone to do the repair for you using the parts you get off e-bay. ( we are in a reccession remember, a lot of places are quiet )
I know the guys at G & D Smart repairs, they would probably let you do most of the fitting up of the replacement parts yourself, that would save you a fortune.

Having said all that, if the frame is twisted then it's not worth the hassle.
