Seriously, years ago loads of bikes used to have these and we used to see them on bikes for MOTs all the time during the winter. They are meant to be very effective, some where even fur lined. You just had to work the switches by feel as you couldn't see them.
Obviously how they look is an issue, plus how they wou;d affect handling catching the wind etc.
As an alternative how about enduro bike handguards - wrap around ones or just the ones fitted to the lever clamps - I use these on my dirtbike & only every use unlined gloves. Remember the WSB boys using the wrap around ones many years ago at Donnington (or those with a longer memory, Fred Merkell using some cut up containers on his VF750 at the Transatlantic races - 1985/6?).
