Got to agree there and the difference has to be that the police are trained to ride faster and safer while the general public are mostly self taught once they pass their tests and only find their own limits by scaring the crap out of themselves in the early days but like in any sport or hobby there are allways people with more natural ability than others, i just have to find where mine has disappeared off to.............Funky wrote:I think it's more about generalisations rather than individual differences and with that I'll say that 'generally, police motorbike riders have significantly more ability than riders within the general public'.
Of course this is a hypothsis but one I think would prove valid.

re. Funky & Johnny (I can't be bothered to quote

Yes police riders are taught to make fast progress on the road. They use a system on which the IAM system is based. It teaches them to "make progress" safely and within their (and their machinery's) limits. It does not make them riding gods - they are still subject to the same frailties - ego, red mist, etc., - as the rest of us (you
only have to watch the various reality police programmes to see they how "pumped up" they get). Yes their training gives them an advantage, but it is also the fact they ride thousands of miles in all weathers that allows them to understand the limits of their machines and the fact they don't have to pay for the repairs to them that allows confidence to push where we might think twice.
i'm not denigrating Police riders, I'm just saying they're not gods .....
I'm waiting for GSXRSi's comments .....

Re: Police Hayabusa
if police riders are top notch they wouldnt need a hayabusa would they ! Its just hype to scare people and it works on most people.Just a little side note a few years ago some magazine got ron haslam to ride a fireblade around donington in his normal style (hang of knee down) and then ride police style and if my memory is correct he was about 3 seconds slower .

Reagarding Pete on his R1100RS.
Weather anyone believes it or not doesn't really bother me.
I saw him ride and whilst I'm not saying he was the fastest, he was up in the top five of the fast group.
I know that a well ridden GSXR or R1 will trounce an old Beemer, but the point is that there are so many sports bike riders who only think they are quick, but in reality cannot ride worth a piss.
I don't ride a "fast" bike, but when I'm out I am continually frustrated at the amount of knobs I encounter, who blast past me in a straight line in a flash of multi coloured leather and knee sliders, but then hold me up in the bends as they wobble around cluelessly.
I say again.
Yes, of course a Gixxer is faster than an old Beemer, but bikes don't ride themselves and need someone decent in the saddle to make the most of their performance.

Re: Police Hayabusa
So, Andy, will you and your mate Pete the riding god be at Llandow and Pembrey in June? I hope that at least you show up, it'd be fun seeing you receive a good shoeing and end up stuffed in the dumpster by all the people whom you've decided to insult on this forum...

On the road, Yes I can see your point ... SOME riders believe they are much faster than they actually are and on some roads, I'm sure Pete would be capable of outriding some sportsbike riders (if he is in fact as good as you say he is). However, on the track, the advanced group of guys/gurls on a trackday are in that group for a reason, they are damn fast riders. I'm struggling to believe your mate would be in the top 5 of the fast group, on his BMW, against very capable, very fast, competent riders on the newest/fastest bikes around - I just can't see it myself.andyals wrote:Reagarding Pete on his R1100RS.

Re: Police Hayabusa
bang on leroy....and on top of the bike not being suitable the other big factor in that group will be the tyres its running....the majority of bikes in that group will be on supercorsa's/racetecs or slicks and they will be using them. I dread to think what tyres a BMW1100 runs, but basically Im more likey to be elected pope than anybody be able to circulate one of those near the front of a fast group.Leroy wrote:

Re: Police Hayabusa
i remember the guys at llandow on the cruiers a couple years ago. They were certainly shimmeying it. They weren't the fastest out there though. There is the guy on his KTM too that whizzes around, now he does make alot of people look daft.

Re: Police Hayabusa
there is a fast difference in pcae between an SWB day out at llandow and the advanced group at an open trackday on a major track.Funky wrote:i remember the guys at llandow on the cruiers a couple years ago. Re: Police Hayabusa
i know that, just thought I would say. I would definately have to say that last year was a lot faster and alot more ability than the year before I think.
But it does also highlight the impact of differing abilities...

Funny how threads get out of hand so quickly, I see no threats there pal....play nice....Everyone is free to post up what they like....i`m certainly not a good rider, i`ve loads to learn....but i`ll listen to everyones point of view on here, The last rideout i was on i felt i`ve improved alot to the previous rideout....Not done any trackdays yet, but i`m sure i will in the future.
Even the best riders will still learn something......As the best riders still fall off!!

Re: Police Hayabusa
I see being threatened with a shoeing, and being thrown in a dumpster a very definite threat.
Me and Scotty are going to have words in private now, I hope.
I'm going to give him the opportunity of carrying out his threat all by himself.
This is now very serious.
