Stanley. I've been riding for 7 years with a big 16 year gap in the middle so I'm a born again biker But I was 2 years younger than you when I started and i'll still be riding when you have long given up and I have NEVER even thought about riding a pan

I've underlined the aspects of your post which I'm having trouble understanding.

Maths isn't my strong point so please bear with me.

You say you've been riding continuously for seven years - and according to your profile, you're 39, which means you started riding again after your, "big gap in the middle", at aged 32

That big gap you say, was 16 years.

So 16 years before you were aged 32, you were aged 16, but hang on a minute.

You also say you started riding at aged 16 (two yrs before the age I started)

So if I've got that right, when you started riding at aged 16, you must have given up almost immediately.

Or did he perhaps mean that he has been riding for 7 years in total with 16 year gap in between - ie maybe 4 years riding, followed by a 16 year gap, then another 3 years riding..????

Why does this matter so much to you?

Only 7 years on full license so far.

29 years and i intend to be in the saddle for 29 more
christ ! i just relized - that would make me 74

been riding since i was 6 and am 41 now but been to busy out riding to respond to this thread ! says it all really talk is cheap

Rode from when I was about 14 - 16 off road, 16 till I was 21, took a break while I lived in sheds and caravans going surfing and building boats, travelling to SE. Asia to build a boat and sail around Indonesia, and after I married and worked out how we ( the family finances ) could aford to buy another one I returned to my first love riding bikes. That was in 2005. So I'v been riding motorbikes for 11 yrs.

Now Stanley ( whoever called him that first, classic, PMSL ), I too am a born again biker. But the first 7 seven years of riding bikes in the mid eighties taught me skills I never forgot, observation of other bikers I NEVER FORGOT, and on returning to bikes I learned new skills as well as REMEMBERING what I learnt first time around. Also consider in your so obvious lofty position of riding ' be all and end all, font of all knowledge', that driving cars whilst not riding bikes, riding bicycles ( road and off road) whilst not riding bikes, all keeps those road and control skills up dated.

Unfortunately I read this topic after I put a 'don't care' vote and a pleasant short reply on the 'should I go' thread, I'v now changed my mind I think you should go. Its really quite sad how you can start what seems like a resonable thread then as soon as someone posts, the insults start flying, the 'I'm so obviously a greater bike rider than you' attitude comes over and you make yourself more enemies than before. So please, do us all a favour and LEAVE.
