Saturday is probably the worst day for the grockle invasion and exodus. With the best will in the world you're unlikely to be able to completely miss the tourist routes.
Si's very early starts is one solution but I'm rarely going to be out early enough for the best part of an hour ride to a 06.00 South Devon start and I wouldn't expect the south Devon peeps to come up to Tiverton or Wellington for a 06.00 start. We could perhaps try some evening rides

Well I was happy and covered off my main aim of getting 250 running in miles done. Am working Sunday so no further chance.

I too was very happy with the ride, adventuring unfamiliar roads. Great job dorting and leading the ride Andy and I look forward to your next one
