I would say a biker is someone who loves bikes but doesnt fit into one stereotyped catagory thats why we all come from different backgrounds and ride different and have different bikes all in all very strong individuals !

think that anyone who thinks themselves a Biker is one.
When I started riding it was just for the purpose of commuting, I rode a 125 to take me too and from work. But as i grew to enjoy myself I started to use the bike for pleasure as well as commuting.
I would say a biker uses his bike recreation, (so it is his hobby) a rider is someone who only uses his bike as means of transport.
But this is my opinion! I would say everyone on this forum is a Biker as they are passionate enough about motorcycles to post on a forum and seek like minded individuals.

surely the term bikes is open to interpretation from one person to the next. If you look in the press, bikes is generally a term used by an ill informed journo when describing a law breaking individual on 2 wheels. Other than that they are motorcyclists. If its a pigeon hole you are looking for you may well be disappointed as although biking is still seen as a bit rebellious we all fall into the same group as users of 2 wheels. It's easy to assume one thing and find out you are wrong. Stately accused me of being a newbie on another thread. Well if 20 years on various bikes, riding pillion on my dads bike when younger, an admin on a bike site, a very lovely girlfriend who also rides bikes, 4 bikes in the garage and a constant flow of bikes being worked on in my garage makes me a newbie - show me the way yoda. I think a 'biker' is a state of mind not a tag. Yes you get people drift in and out of riding bikes but thats life, you have to try these things, don't put them down just cos they don't meet your own perceptions and views. In this day and age motorcyclists should stick together and not bicker amongst themselves. If you find one group that doesn't live up to your own idea of a biker, keep on looking, you might find like minded individuals somewhere and then can all sit back and laugh at all newbies and pretenders. Don't forget tho, even you were once a newbie and all these 'pretenders' are doing is looking for a identity within a community. Would you deny them that right ?

sweet jesus not this again, 5 pages in 1 day, good going. can't be arsed to read the whole lot but i think i get the gist, and to be honest, i couldn't care less if some nob jockey on a forum does or doesn't consider me a "real" biker. i ride my bike as often or as infrequently as i want to, some days i'll get up, feeling a bit tired, it's a bit grim outside, and i think "sod it, i'll take the car today, as i ride because i enjoy it, and i don't feel like i'd enjoy it today", all depends on my mood in the morning, and occasionally whether i have enough change for the car park

Personally, if you asked me what a real biker is I wouldn't have the answer, but I know what a real biker isn't.
Different people get different uses out of their bikes, some use them as cheap transport, some own them purely as toys, some make a living off the back of them and I suspect most would fall somewhere in between, regardless of what they are doing at the time, if they are on a bike and not causing a hazard then all the more power to them.
Besides, I honestly fail to even see why this sort of topic even merits a thread tbh, if you're really that worried about branding individuals as fake/real bikers then maybe you need to look at yourself and consider if it's really you doing the whole fragile ego stroking deal? Next time try grabbing a cuppa from the van and joining in the conversation

You have a troll in your midst for sure. It calls itself Stately. It conforms to the usual troll spec, the following from an How to identify an internet troll website:
How can troll posts be recognised?
No Imagination - Most are frighteningly obvious; sexist comments on nurses' groups, blasphemy on religious groups .. I kid you not.
Pedantic in the Extreme - Many trolls' preparation is so thorough, that while they waste time, they appear so ludicrous from the start that they elicit sympathetic mail - the danger is that once the group takes sides, the damage is done.
False Identity - Because they are cowards, trolls virtually never write over their own name, and often reveal their trolliness (and lack of imagination) in the chosen ID. As so many folk these days use false ID, this is not a strong indicator on its own!
Crossposting - Any post that is crossposted to several groups should be viewed as suspicious, particularly if unrelated or of opposing perspective. Why would someone do that?
Off-topic posting - Often genuine errors, but, if from an 'outsider' they deserve matter-of-fact response; if genuine, a brief apposite response is simply netiquette; if it's a troll post, you have denied it its reward.
Repetition of a question or statement is either a troll - or a pedant; either way, treatment as a troll is effective.
Missing The Point - Trolls rarely answer a direct question - they cannot, if asked to justify their twaddle - so they develop a fine line in missing the point.
Thick or Sad - Trolls are usually sad, lonely folk, with few social skills; they rarely make what most people would consider intelligent conversation. However, they frequently have an obsession with their IQ and feel the need to tell everyone. This is so frequent, that it is diagnostic! Somewhere on the web there must be an Intelligence Test for Trolls - rigged to always say "above 150".
DNFTT.

I haven't used the term REAL BIKER in reference to anyone else.
As I said, the word real, is what I have a problem with.
