Just got this E-mail from Alan Holland (Trackday organiser)...
Hi Nick
Please can u post the following on the web forum ASAP.
NOISE LIMITS
Despite previous notices regarding Noise Limits at Pembrey we have found a increasing number of number of race / track originated machines clearly ignoring this rule, and as a result and direction of Pembrey Circuit Management are enforcing a strict 105db noise limit.
Please take note of the following :
All motorcycles ridden in the event must have a fitted / working tachometer fitted.
Machines will be noise tested before going 'On Circuit' and clearly marked of their ''pass''.
Random noise tests will be carried out throughout the day, at various points on circuit.
Riders suspected of further modifying their machines and subsequently effecting the noise level will be excluded from the event.
It is the Riders responsibility to ensure their motorcycle meets these requirements.
Passing a noise test at another circuit will in no way guarantee passing the test imposed on Pembrey.
The use of standard Road Silencers or ' DB Killer ' type of equipment is strongly advised.
No refunds will be offered if machines fail the noise tests.
The Noise Control Officer's decision is final on all matters.
Regards
Alan Holland

ouch
no different to motorsport visions policys then but it does take the piss that you cant use race systems on track but i guess the odd few with stupidly loud cans have ruined it for the majority again

its too check the revs against cc for the noise limit, think its 7500rpm for a 600 and 6000rpm for a 1000 at msv tracks. if you dont have a rev counter they wire a device onto your spark plugs and use them instead. my mates had to buy clock brackets for his k5 750 so he can have his clocks on with his race bodywork on just to save the hassle at oulton and cadwell etc

How loud is 105db exactly? Are most race cans likely to be ok? Kelly has a Akra half system on her 636, is that likely to pass?

yep if they test it the correct way which is 2foot and 45 degrees away from the end of the can, oulton and cadwell have them machine on the end of a metal rod which defines the distance
whats suprising is that a v twin is quieter than a il4
at cadwell last year my 916 was 98db with termis fitted yet a mates zx7rr with microns was a 106 and had to be rechecked after his first session once warm it was 105.7 and just scraped through
if they test like castle coombe then any newish bike with a low slung exhaust (r6,gsxr600/750 etc )will be struggling even with standard cans fitted

Yeah i have heard that a few bikes have struggled at Castle combe with standard cans
Seems stupid really when the law allows them on the highway.
Wired in my new Revcounter which seems to work untill something went pop. Sorted now i think

Had to guess the wires
Rev counter-White/Black, Red/Black,Orange
Bike-Red,Green
Put Black/White to earth,Red/Black to the live RED from Bike and Orange to the Green from bike and seems to work but to be honest it worked ethier way when you swop the Red/Black to Green and Orange to the Red from bike.
Now you see why i blew something
Anyhow off topic sorry NICK

Is there anyway to advance the rev counter, to say you're doing 7000 revs when you're doing only 6000...

There is on some of the older kawa’s. If you take the rev counter out of the housing there is a small adjustment screw. A small turn makes a big difference so you’ll need a second remote meter to check how far you are adjusting and that you’re turning it the right direction.
Alternatively take the face off and bend the needle 500rpm or so.
Don’t blame me if you break the needle off as I haven’t tried this.
Also remember to adjust your gear change point unless you are just going to rely on the rev limiter.

I got Black flagged twice at Thruxton a few years back for loud pipe as it was it was totaly standard, the decided it was the air induction that was causing the noise, so was told to back off past the noise test

Got this from Alan, after I told him some might pull out instead of having to buy a standard exhaust...
'They don't need to buy a standard exhaust system or even silencer - u can buy a db killer for about £8/9 and fit that instead. Takes about 6 DB off the noise level.
If they are planning to any other TD's anywhere else they'll need it anyway.'
We also now have a few places available in the 'Fast' group, all other groups are full.

To be honest i think i already have one of those fitted to my exhaust. If its what i am thinking it is. Mine looks like a round washer placed about 2 inches into the can with several holes in it.
Could be wrong but i havn't got the foggyish what else it could be unless its there to create some back pressure. It is a hand made titanium exhaust.
