Had a little Rideout today with Kata & Woo636. Great ride but the road surfaces particularly in North Devon are bloody awful. The road out of Lynmouth to Simonsbath is no better than an unsurfaced dirt track and Simonsbath to South Mollton not a lot better in places and probably to be avoided.

Totally agree Phill, was up that way today just potholes and gravel absolutely crap,but great to be out

I've made a mental note of those two roads and will avoid them on my next venture across Exmoor.

I was gonna head over that way yesterday but the weather look less favourable north so I headed southeast instead.
Roads were generally fine over there but lots of farm mud in places.

Nick and I went up to Torrington and across towards Bude then back through Holsworthy and Hatherleigh today. At least twice I hit large potholes that pretty much took up the whole width of the road, big enough to slam my crown jewels into the tank
Wouldn't be so bad at 40mph which maybe explains why all the cars were doing that speed but when you're making progress those occasions hurt.
Yet there has been plenty of resurfacing done, just that it's mostly covered in mud and muck

I was genuinely surprised at the awful condition of the roads on a little bimble I had today. After one pothole I couldn't avoid I actually stopped to check I hadn't damaged a tyre or rim ....

If the roads get much worse trailies or adventure bikes will be the ones to have , race replicas etc will only be of use on trackdays ,

The 21"front wheel on my 790 Adventure was a hell of a lot better at soaking up the bumps than the 17" one on the Duke.
Small potholes are bad enough but some of the ones we encountered today were not only deep but 2 foot long

I headed towards salcombe today other than 1 thankfully avoided pothole roads seemed good .was great to be out tho

I managed to get out yesterday and ventured out to north Devon and up to Lynmouth. Agree with the comments above the A and B road were basically dodge the pot hole, most of the time was a tonne of gravel and dirt in the centre of the road which was killing the preferred lines was quite amazed.

Still a nice ride and great to get out but think it’s fair to say Covid lock down has not done wonder for the general road maintenance .

And now that all the money for North Devon roads is being spent on so called improvements to the A361 Link Road the other roads, that is the good biking roads, will be left to get even worse. When we did Simmo to SMolton the other day the drist was so bad you couldn't see the poorer surfaces until you were right on them so I was glad for the plush suspenders in the Busa - Chris's teeth must have rattled terribly on the Yam.

Least he has teeth...
