Hi All,

Any of the usual suspects like to do a Cotswolds tour this year?

Date: weekend 16 August.

Base: Chippenham

Plan: Come up on the friday night, have a few drinks and get a good kip. Sat, take a road though the Cotswolds visiting Bibury, Burford, Morton in the Marsh,bourton on water, Broadway Tower, and a posh village or two. All subject to suggestions.

Pace: Its the Cotswolds, not Wales, think mostly pleasant views, cafes (OK there are a few bits of road one can make progress )

If you cant make it then but would like to pop up PM me.

Certainly sounds like a plan John. What's the accommodation situation? Are you anywhere near the A350 Premier Inn? Or maybe a beer dispensing hostelry with beds?

That date works for me, so subject to accommodation arrangements, I'm in. Used to deliver around that area 30 years ago and interested to see what's changed.

Yep, I'm not interested in winding through the grockle traps, and we have scenery here.

There's a premier inn close by or a hotel in the village with a nice pub up the road. Prem inn would be cheaper but perhaps not so fun. If small numbers we can accommodate people.

Route not finalised yet. I make use of the Simon Weir route plans which are normally good fun but can keep clear of anything that's not wanted. Phil if you have ideas please let me know?

John, if the Premier Inn has a restaurant and a bar close by that might work. I'll have a look at routes; it's a bit out of my 'local knowledge' patch but I'll see what I can come up with and maybe you can either fine tune it or, more likely, bin it .

I think we can say Bourton on on the water is safely off the route plan.

When we lived in west Wilts the cotswolds were an easy jaunt away - Bibury, though very nice, can be wall-to-wall Chinese tourists, especially if they've just been disgorged from their coach(es). It's a good place to go if you get a quiet time, take some bread with you and feed the trout in the river; there are many that escaped from the local fish farm and watching them beating the ducks to the bread is a giggle. From Bibury I'd head on to Burford, navigate all the tourist dickheads and wankpanzers through the main street and then you have two good choices:
1. Take the fun and fast A424 to and through Stow, joining the A44 on the way to Fish Hill, which is fun unless you get caught behind slow traffic on the way down (single lane, solid line) - not a problem on the way back up as it's two-lane.
2. Take the A361 for a couple of miles, then fork right on the B4437 to Charlbury - a road made for a Super Duke (or anything else that can wheelie) I defy anyone to not enjoy this road. Just out the other side of Charlbury (towards Enstone) on the B4022 is The Old Shed Café (a shorter jaunt then (1) but decent all the same.

Was planning a route incorporating fish hill but that B4437 sounds interesting.any good route from Charlbury back to 'nam?

Thinking perhaps Cricklade direction? If heading there, then after Cricklade through Minty, Malmesbury junction and back.

Id prefer to end up around Marlborough, to go past the golf course and hen peck hill but that would probably be a long day.

I need to get Basecamp out and check!
