Noisy tappets and irregular idle would go hand in hand, been properly serviced? If it doesn't have full history and no recent service I would be inclined to get it done.

I tend to go with the 'if you think it's broken, It'll sound broken'
Take it to your mechanic and get him to listen, Just incase your mind is playing games with you

P.S. Racecans can help to filter out strange noises :)

sounds like the carbs need balancing, something not always done as part of a service (cheapskate garadges) unballanced cards means the cylinders are fighting one another and can cause both symptoms. Could also be cause by water in the carbs from condensation if the bike is left standing for more than a few days this weather.

How many miles has it done, and when were the clearences last checked?

If you have to do the valves, get those done, and then balance the carbs and It'll be running sweet.

I have same kinda problems, but I'm going to leave it till the spring/summer because in the hotter months the problem gets much worse. Now it's running quite nicely. And I cant be bothered to spend ££ on it. at the mo.

Nice new(er) R6 I'd get it done asap. My bike is old and not worth nearly as much.

If the clearences on the valves are a little loose itll rattle some but it wont hurt it.
