Do you think its worth taking your restrictions out earlier, or leaving them in till you've done your full 2 years

Leave it in and your 100% legal.

Take it out and get caught, I guess you're effectively riding without a licence, and therefore no insurance. Have an accident and get caught and you are in big trouble.

But its your choice as long as you understand the consequences.

If it was me i'd leave it in, but I've always been a good law abiding citizen.

I only took mine out cos it was making the bike run so hot (due to being lean) it made the bike die at traffic lights all the time

Performace wise...they never made much difference on my bike...but if you have an accident and find out it's due to you being able to go faster than you should (which could happen) then it would be your fault regardless of what happened

No restrictors= no Insurance cover.

The one thing im afraid of if i do decide to take them out early is that something happens for me to loose my licence or not covered on the insurance,

But i feel if i had that little bit for acceleration i could overtake quicker and safer

I just want to see what other people opinions are on the this subject

Insurance is a touchy subject, I've heard lots of people say the ins never checked or cared (Assuming the accident wasnt your fault or to do with the extra power I guess) but you always hear the odd bad story.

Why not, take em out, have them drilled bigger and put back in again? making a little more BHP and a little more power. In the event of an accident there in there, and there not going to dyno test your bike are they...

my restictor is a little black plug and play cartridge (curse thee modern technology). 5 mins job to swap yet i feel the bike goes plenty fast enough already.Even restricted i still have the fastest bike outa my usual riding buddies so it all gooooooooood

Mine fell out when i had the carbs serviced Wasn't doing my engine any good as they were making the bike run rich. Just be carefull!

At the end of the day only you can decide if you want to take them out or not...... plenty have said why not take them out to me but I feel I haven't needed to, my bike goes plenty fast enough to keep up if I want to. You also have plenty of power to overtake if you want to, you just have to be more choosy when you decide to make the manouvre, you compramise on the loss of the bit of power you haven't got and adjust your riding accordingly.... I've got 4 months left with my restrictions in and the last 20 months have gone quickly.... it's funny how you get used to what you've got coz you've never been used to anything else and 33bhp is darn quicker than 14bhp... be patient, stay legal ......

This is proably a hypocritical answer as I would have taken them out. But then I have a habit of making things difficult for my self.

and whilst youd probably get away with it there is the potential for it all to go horribly wrong.

I did a bit of research into restrictions on behalf of Blubird and this is what i discovered:

1. there is no legal obligation to provide any form of paper work to prove your bike is restricted.
2. unless you were caught doing silly speeds or the bike was obviously more powerful than 33bhp a copper probably won't question it.
3. the only time you are really likely to be caught is if you are involved in an accident where someone is seriously injured (having said that i got airlifted to hospital and my bike was never looked at - i'm a hypocrit to as i took mine out)

I spoke to the DVLC, Devon and Cornwall Police and bike dealers.

Having said all of this while the risk is small I think if u already have the kit fitted to your bike u might as well keep it in. Removing it will mean invalidating your insurance and licence (an LC penalty code for riding not in accordance with your licence).

Besides i don't think the restictions tend to be the limiting factor on how fast people ride anyway - if your flt out scraping the pegs on every bend then consider it otherwise i would recommend concentrating on improving your riding.
