Well I was told that you need to let the insurance company know everything even if you have changed the foot pegs, but I dont know how true this is
I was told by someone whose mates works for express insurance

I think it's just performance enhancing modifications that matter, they didn't want to know when I told them about my restrictions - well I suppose I was de-enhancing it

Ah the big question!!!
Do you declare the mods and get raped by the insurance?!?
OR
do you not tell them then when you have an accident they dont pay out a penny even if it wasnt your fault!!!!
All my bikes are standard
It was hard enough insuring a standard bike..... Now I tell them about 1500 notes worth of accesories some of which boost preformance???
I dont think so!!!!
Be warned tho, its a big financial loss if anything does happen!!

So how much do they tend to add for say an exhaust mod?
I've always been a bit naughty and prayed for the best

It would be foolish not to declare something which would be obvious to an inspector....
My TRE is hidden in the wiring loom, so not mentioned. They say they don't insure pipes stamped "Race" or "not highway suitable" - whilst mine are straight through they are not stamped, so all ok.
I told them about the flat bars and cut-down fairing and they weren't bothered.
That said, me recent renewal notice came back marked "not modified" so I have to give them a call ....

You can buy a stamp on ebay...
I always thought that keep the standard parts in the garage, anything happens, tow the bike back to yours and fit the standard parts again, not full proof, but a fighting chance..

With ebike insurance you can declare mods when you complete the on-line application form. Not sure if it affects premiums though.

No i never declare mods.
My Akra has a big fat "not for road use" stamped across it.
Never had to make an insurance claim so dunno whether they would pick up on it.
if they would or did then f uck em and the horse they rode in on. I only really view it as a legal document anyway if I didnt legally have to have insurance I wouldnt bother, best thing you can do is keep your bike upright and not worry about it.
although Im sure that I know lots of people who have claimed with race cans on without getting picked up on it

I haven't declared my can but I do have my standard can in the garage in case after an accident, if not too serious I can attach my standard can to it. somehow :S lol

You should actually list everything that you have changed on the bike, I even added 'cosmetic' changes to my policy to include the stickers. If you don't declare anything then they will assume they are insuring a standard bike. If you have an accident & someone comes to inspect the damage, they are well within their rights to refuse a payout just because you have a different screen on the bike. I am quite happy to send insurers a picture of my bike so that they know what they are insuring, that way they cannot say anything & refuse a payout.
I know of a friend that never declared any modifications on his car insurance, someone hit his car & it was going to be sorted on the fully comp cover he had, the insurance chap took one look at his car & walked away after looking to 2 seconds, he declined the payment as the insurance was for a standard car, & he didn;t declare the tinted windows.
To be on the safe side, I would declare everything, might bump it up a couple of £££'s but it would save even more in the event of an accident.

F*ck them, thats why I say.
If they want to try to decline a claim because of aftermarket footpegs/screen etc I'd fight it all the way to court, it's just another way to scam more money from you and not pay out if you dont.
I mean when do you stop? Aftermarket rim rape? Barends? Footpegs? Hugger? hardly the cause of the accident.
