Motorcycle / motorbike trailer plans for a 2 or 3 bike trailer please.

I have now bought the mig & Arc welder, my next door nabor will be getting me the steel, so now just need some plans.

Watching 600kg indespension units on ebad for it as well.

Cheers Nick, I have downloaded a load of different style trailers from ebad, its the dimensions I really need.

I am hoping to make something like this one, as it seems to be the simplest design

Just a few points to help you on your way, can't measure my trailer as it's at my dad place at the moment but few points to consider:

Try & use 10" Mini wheels & Hubs rather than boat trailer wheels, I know they are getting hard to come by but the tyres are far superior, use good quality taper roller bearings that you can grease each year.

Make the trailer as wide as you can afford (ie as wide as the car if poss), this may limit you as to where you can store it but you'll have alot more stability when towing, more room for the bikes, plus you'll be able to see the wheel arches etc in your mirrors when reversing the trailer with no bikes on board.

Before you put your front stops/loops, try it with a bike on board to make sure the trailer is not nose light (again for stability).

Also consider having the centre run fixed & the outer two demountable - to save weight when carrying just 2 bike. Have the outher runs staggered from the centre one so handlebars clear each other etc.

Don't forget somewhere convenient to mount a ramp, my trailer is a see-saw design but is bery noisy when empty, also give the tie down points some thought.

Get some decent quality ratchet straps, I prefer the ones without hooks which loop around the frame/bars, they wont come unhocked if the bikes bounce on their suspension.

Get a cheap light board from Trago (normally £10-£15) rather than fitting seperate fixed lights - otherwise you'll be chasing bad earths forever. Have it so it's easilly removable so you can use it with other trailers/cycle racks etc , if you lend the trailer make sure the borrower knows how the light board is fixed - otherwise they'll be dragging it down the road.

If you want dimensions then give me a call, but as I said before - as wide as your car and rungs as long as your longest bike.

hmmm, new mig welder, plans for a trailer - what's this speedy, a way of sourcing bits for your new venture?

i think ive got a pair of metro wheels in my dads basement somewhere if theyre any use - same hub as mini ones. in fact, my dad may even have an old caravan chassis in the garden still that he was thinkin of converting to a box trailer but never got round to - brakes and all. could be a good base to convert?
