Help! Provisional Cage license with full bike license

Hi all,

Sorry I didn't know where else to put this. My b/f is begrudgingly come to the realisation that he is going to need to learn to drive a cage (getting older, poss having kids, picking me up from a night out on the lash etc etc) but I cannot for the life of me find any information about applying for a provisional bike license when you already have a full bike one.

I know it's £45 for a first provisional license but I don't know if that counts when you already have a full one. I take it he won't need to send off more pics etc! There is just no info on the net about this situation.

If anyone has done this before can they let me know. I know I need photocopy his license though as I have heard many horror stories where people have had to send their license to the DVLA and they get it back without the full bike classification and people have had to retake their test!! :shock:

Anyhoo - any advice most appreciated.

Shiv

Durrr I mean a provisional car license when you already have a full bike license. Why can't you edit posts on this thing :?

have you deffo checked the back of his licence?, thought that they would have just put provisional car on there anyway for someone over 17?

if not then presume that you just have to get the application form for a provisional license and go that route

I was same situation years ago, but cant remember what I did :(

I passed my car test and didnt drive a car again for about 3 years LOL, was a bit of a strange experience when I did first drive on the road

His full Motorcycle licence is also a provisinal car licence.

Once he has got his theory and practical pass cirtificates he can send his licence off and have CAT B added to the back of it.

That is correct.
You dont need to do anything till you pass your car test, at which the examiner sends your licence away to add the car part to the licence.

Mine has a provisional license on it, and I have a full bike license.

Best bet would be to call the DVLA, helpful bunch at times!

f = Agricultural Tractors
k = Mowing machine or vehicle controlled by pedestrian
p = Moped

Photo card licence's, should show provisional entitlement in top left hand section; a car entitlement will be shown as a 'B'.

If for whatever reason the provisional entitlement is not shown (in some cases it just isn't!) then you will need to get a Form 'D1' from the post office & send off requesting the provisional entitlement for a car 'B' no fee is required. Should take no more than 3-weeks to be returned.

If your boy friend rings the following number the DVLA will be able to check whether he already has the entitlement. Tel: 0870 240 0009 (on the options press 5 & 5).
