WARNING to those with even STANDARD cans at CASTLECOOMBE

Post by Blimey »

Been looking at doing a trackday at Castlecoombe as its prob the closest to me.

I did know they had strict noise restrictions and was going to purchase a standard for this but read at the bottom of the page about noise restrictions even on these bikes with standards cans.

http://www.castlecombecircuit.co.uk/bike_trackdays.htm
Guess i won't be buying the 750 K7 for a while then if its going to restrict me

did a trackday there last year, my standard ZXR750 passed easily, my mates blade was pretty close to the limit but still passed.

I'm up there on wednesday and getting so excited its like waiting for christmas, just hoping the Aprilia's dustbin is quiet enough for them but I dont know at what revs they'll test it because it doesn't have a redline just a flashy light.

It sucks, fair enough for these bikes with stupidly loud straight through MotoGP style cans but if it's standard then they should pass it either way!

they are only looking after their business.

Noise levels are restricted by their local council and is a restriction within their planning permission, I'm sure if they could get away with it they wouldn't test anyone and just have a free for all.

I'm off to Castle Coombe this summer, as a present from my bro. It's only for a Wednesday though!! My VFR should pass but when I go I'll let you know how badass they are.

Yeah but bikes are made with the noise restriction in place for production. What ever it is

So they are not allowing road legal noise restricted with in the law bikes on thier trackdays.

Sounds a bit pants to me

but are the tests being done in the correct way, thats the difference. i know some new road going supersport cans werent allowed onto a 102db trackday at brands recently as theyre that close to the limit, dont forget weather condition and how warm the engine is can make a difference

but like I said, its not the circuit that has set the noise limit, its the council, the circuit has to comply or lose their planning permission.

whats legal for the road has nothing to do with it, its fortunate that the massive majority of standard bikes are withing the limit but dont forget that its only a handfull of bikes that fail, namely

Suzuki GSXR600 – 2006 model
GSXR 750 K6 & K7
GSXR1000 K6 – 2006 model with standard exhaust
Yamaha R6 – 2006 model

anything else should be fine.

if you want to blame anyone, blame the manufacturers for making crap and fuggly exhausts

I got stopped twice at thruxton for noise on my standard gsxr srad 600 about 8 years ago !

They had the noise meter where you were flat out in 5th just about to hook 6th.

right then, I've just got back from there.

my tuono registered 102Db,
my mates GSXR6 (K1) registered 105Db right on the limit.
my mate oldish blade registered 103Db
and the surprise was a VTR whose exhaust clamps rusted through and fell off so the Left hand can was blowing like buggery - 104Db.

there were several KTM 660's out there, the fella next to us had acra's on his and that registered 104Db with the baffles OUT.

there was an R6 there that they say on their site may fail and there was a motomorini 3.5 that was really loud, that must have got through on nostalgia alone

you sound suprised tha the vtr passed, what people dont realise is that a v twin boom actually registers less on the db scale than a il4 my 916 with termis was only 98db at cadwell in july, quiet enough to pass a noise test at doningtons quiet days, you wont get many il4's with race cans on a quiet day.
