Not a happy chap! Dodgy road surface!!

First time out on my bike today after rebuilding it over the winter, parked it up for 15 minutes on the street come back to find it a laying on its side. Nooooooo!

The patch of tarmac under the stand was obviously dodgy and gave way causing the stand to sink into the road, it was in the shade so its not like it melted in the sun!! Arggghhh!

Snapped clutch lever, broken indicator, cracked side fairing and top fairing, small dent it tank and scratches on the frame and rear plastics!

A guy came out of his house to say he saw it go over and gave me a telephone number for the council saying i make a claim. Reported a dangerous road surface to the council and they said to call back on monday. Took a couple of pictures. Does anyone know my odds for claiming off the council? Any further advice would be appreciated if this has happened to you.

Cheers in advance.

Is this the street you live in? if not, find out any road history with local residents.

Can you duplicate the incident and place the bike close to the area?
Take video but get someone else with you ready to save the bike - just in case

Make a note of dates & times including who you speak to at the Council or SW Highways.

My understanding is limited but the more details you submit about the road fault ~ the better your chances.

Or perhaps try one of these no win no fee bike solicitors you see advertised in mcn, but bad luck and sorry to hear it either way..........

Have you got AA or RAC? They often have legal helplines you can call for free. I'm with RAC and called them about a matter the other day and they were really good/helpful..
