Well dont buy a convertion.
Aprilla are worth a look at if looking for new.
KTM are a must look at the new 690 SMC is very good.
Take look on
http://www.ktmforum.co.uk/ in the for sale section.
You cant go wrong with a 660 SMC or 625 SMC from 04 onwards. The old black LC4 engine is kick only and can be a real sod.
Hope this helps.

not got enough cash/finance available for a new one,if i did i'd be serously tempted by the new 690 sm
was thinking of a cr450/250 or a wr450 but know nothing about them apart from the fact that they are under £2k

Having had a go on a WR450 I would only go for one that came out of the factory as a SM but they are very hard to find. Most are conversions.
A KTM 450,525 or 540 will walk all over the WR.
At less than 2k they will al be a kicker and on the older side but a real hoot on the lanes around St Austell.
I would look to spend 2k and no less then you should be able to find a good bike if you can travel to pick up.
If you are realy lucky you might get a find like I did even more so with the current state of the uk money market.

Poor chap deffo need a starter with his dodgy knees. Poor sod is falling apart.
Bondy any of those SM's you have mentioned up to a daily commute to and throw work in all weathers ??
Tried the 990 superduke a while back and loved it but they are still priced quite high for my poor bank balance

Trust me you would not want to kick mine it bites when you get wrong and could lunch even me with the compresion.
When you say commute I think you mean across Exeter if so yes and will be the most fun you have ever had around town.
I love riding around the traffic in Marsh Barton and Sowton area.
The 990 SD is good fun but nothing like an SM. Come and have a go on mine to get a feel for a proper SM you will also find out if a SM is for you or not.

16 to 20 mile round trip to work all year in all weathers. Just i heard some of the KTM SM's need more regular mantainence servicing then other SM's.
Oh and the answer to "find out if a SM is for you or not" are you offering me a session in this to
"YES MISTRESS"

So you are a sub after all.
Yes some KTM's do have a low oil change time but to be honest only if you race in compition. Most road going SM will be fine.
Plus its not like you would abuse a bike by not looking after it. Yes like me you would ride hard ( Well thats what your good lady said this morning after the fourth time

) but you would look after it.

Hmmm getting tempted to get one.
Had a go on a de restricted dt125, thought it was good fun bit skitish on the back tyre though.
But I have no idea of whats good, definatly going to look into it next year, would probably be a budget of about 1500 max.
Any ideas.

Not a DT125 thats for sure.
Take a good look around over the winter. You may find a cheap DRZ or KTM and more of a chance with the current money market.
The min size to look at would be a 400 but that also depends on the bike and where you plan to ride.

Haha, well I thought it was fun anyway.
Got an R6 to work on over the winter then come spring will be getting rid of the divvy and maybe the 400 so will want something to commute to work and college about 10 miles each way, then a bit of fun at the weekends, green laneing, stunting ect, then the R6 can come out on rideouts ect.
I do quite like the DRZ's and WR's thought KTM's were a bit on the expensive side though?

You are right they are a bit. But way ahead of any other bike for the same money and hold their money so resale is good.
