Hi guys,
I know I'm not going to be the only one feeling the cold on my commute and I guess u've been asked before! but anyone got any tips on keeping my hands warm? I have some Bering winter gloves, thinking of getting some knox undergloves.. any good?
I'll get some heated grips but need to get bike serviced first (anyone got any recomendations of someone good in the newton area? been told Brian Loram is tops!)
Is there anything else i can do? being a barber it'd be good to be able to feel my fingers before half a days gone by!!

John T's on the roundabout where you were hit ... they look after mine

My experience of heated grips is good overall, except in REALLY cold weather they only kept the palms of my hands warm.That could just be down to my gloves tho.
Undergloves are actually quite effective however the trade-off is less movement and feel.If you stick em on the radiator before you put them on that usually helps a lot too

Ooooh Eerrrrrr!!! Mittens cant be good on a bike surely!!

on the odd occasion i do ride in the cold i use my snowboarding gloves. Very toasty plus have good support and protection.

I wear just normal everyday gloves underneath my winter gloves, nice and warm hands for me. But then my commute is 4 miles to college or 6 to work.

I only wear gloves for protection...

For some reason my hands don't feel the cold (Yes Funky, probably old thick skin) I actually ski bare handed...

Mine do that too. However my heated grips are still amazing, well worth having!

I find turning the central heating to permanently on instead of timer controlled keeps me warm at present

Ok, u must all be 'ard nuts! prompted me to workout how far I do go, 13 miles each way, most of the time I'm just cold but the other night I had real problems pulling the clutch in for the last couple of miles! the cars where already freezing up though! are snowboarding gloves different to a pair of ski gloves I could pick up in sportshop/ millets or somewhere?

snowboarding gloves tend to be longer than ski gloves and will have a pull string to tighten around the sleeve (to stop snow or wind getting in). They will generally be tougher material in the palm and fingers area. Some of the more expensive ones will have protectors in the wrists aswell. Better off looking in a sports shop or on a snowboarding website.

Have a look in Maplins - they do battery powered heated vests and gloves which would probably be ideal as "undergloves" for short commuting rides or under a pair of waterproof over gloves

Oh so we have started predciting my insults have we?

I don't think it has anything to do with cold, it's probably all the KY jelly you have on your hands...


I always stick my hands on the exhaust when i stop to warm them up.... must get twin exit exhausts so I can do my left hand too.

put your gloves on your exhaust whilst your warming your bike up then once your hands are in and your riding they should stay warm enough for your ride home
