I need to replace the front tyre on my bike but fancy a change from the BT021 that i normally use, just to see if anything works better I know I should change both front and back at the same time but the back has not long been done and they never seem to need doing at the same time.

Question is? firstly what comes out better for use in the wet and playing on rideouts in the dry? Secondly is there a way to change the front and back at different times to run different makes or is it still a complete no no.

Some tyres have quite different profile shapes to others, and that can make some bikes unpredictable, hence the comments on trying to fit tyres in pairs or to match ..... that said I have certainly run bikes with tyres from different manufacturers without problems in the past. Ironically I have exactly the same problem myself at present

If you want something a little stickier, try and fit a front from the same manufacturer .... the 016 is bridgestone's "step up" from the 021 isn't it

Alternatively, swap as a pair and sell the good rear on e-bay

Oh, and it's always best to have the stickier tyre on the front

I'm currently running an 014 front and 021 rear. Feels nice so far. Personally I didn't like the way the 021 front felt as though it was getting away from me going into corners. I haven't had the problem with the current set up.

I will say though, if you're running different compounds, make sure the stickier compound is on the front.

hi . i have the same issue to, i run 016s , im going to try there new 003 just on front. what u think

i doubt you'll ever get a pair worn at the same time as each other.

if you can afford it go for a softer compound front and a harder compound rear and that may help with even wear. if its road riding your doing that will work perfectly well,if its for the track then think of slicks as they last longer than treaded tyres

i'm running a 016 on the front and a 020 on the rear sound so far

Although looking outside at my snowed in car maybe a set of these for the bike would be better

I ran a Dunlop on the back and a Bridgestone on the front for half a year till the front wore enough to warrant changing, then I put the corrasponding Dunlop on the front and didn't really notice any change to the handling. Then again I don't do track days ( as yet ne way) but I do ride in all weathers at a reasonable pace ( well as best you can on a 400 ). I think modern tyres are so similar in construction that it comes down to personal preference and obviously being sensible when mixing and matching so at least your tyres are in the same ball park.
