My mate is after a quad. He's currently riding a 50cc ped on a CBT and is 17. What are the requirements to riade a quad on the road? Do you need a full bike or car liscence or can it be done on a CBT? Thanks!

My mate had a 50cc Derbi quad that he rode on a CBT at 16. I dunno if it was legal or not though.

aparently you can drive a robin reliant on a cbt if you have l plates and take the reverse gear out?

OK... so we have a quad "bike" which has handle bars to steer & is fairly light & manouverable, but you need a car licence to ride/drive.
And then there's a Reliant Robin which has a steering wheel to steer & is big & bulky just like a car,but you can drive( yes drive cuz you don't ride one) it with a bike licence.Plus how the hell are you supposed to manouvere it without a reverse gear.
Don't seem right some how.

think a quad is classed as a car so you need a full car licence to ride one

and a robin can be driven on a bike licence if it has no reverse because its got three wheels just like a trike or bike with sidecar

I remember years ago you could ride a bike with a side car on a car license, or something like that, so people were buying GPZ 1100`s and stuff and sticking on these things called sidewinders which were a little arm with a hinge on it that stuck out the side of the bike with a little wheel on the end, and this was legal, the laws nuts sometimes

Yeah i vaguely remember those.

Didn't the side car wheel lean with the bike round corners?

yeah, thats the one, also back in the day you could pass your test at 17 by riding your bike round the block a few times, then you could ride anything, my mate Jer, who`s a few years older than me, passed his test on his 17th birthday and jumped straight on his new GPZ 1100

, I`ve got a photo of him on it somewhere, he just looks like a little kid sat on it, hes only about 5`5" too

, it only lasted about two weeks before he wrote it off though

, oh the good old days

You can ride a 125cc quad on a cbt at 17.
