There are loads, and they now accept UK bank/credit cards. Take both to even the odds. As you drive along you will see signs all over the place for 24hr service stations, with lots located at supermarkets and retail parks. We always go on the basis that when traveling in the outskirts to fill up once we get to 100 miles. That way most people in the group still of 30+ in reserve inless the smallest tank has been maxing out.

dont overplan jump on your bike and go much more enjoyable.
all you need is a cash card a credit card a passport and a motorbike...the rest you can make up as you go along.

If your heading through the mountains my simple advice is don't drive by a petrol station I don't mean fill up every 5 miles, but if you've done 50miles since your last fill and their is a station why not fill up and stretch your legs, it then allows you to enjoy the next 50 miles without thinking $hit am i gonna find anywehere to fill up.
Fortunately for me I had a tomtom which told me where all the petrol stations where, all though I do remember driving past one thinking no worries do need fuel will get some later, only to ride another 40 miles check my tomtom and go ohh shit the nearest one is the one we went past 40 miles ago.
Have a cracking time, it'll be worth it

I'd advise buying the Garmin 550, it tells you where all the cash points are, petrol stations, hotels and so much more
I've been told that whatever you do - don't run dry on Autoroutes, there's a nasty fine if your caught

Do the unmanned patrol stations in France now let you use a UK debit card?
I was in France a couple of years ago and ran out of petrol and couldnt fill up the bike as the card wouldnt work. Had to sit there for hours until someone showed up in a car to fill up as it was late at night.

petrol station in france are as common as gavin after a baileys. on major roads they're a fixed number of miles apart and tend to accept british debit cards if not then major credit cards. i would say though thats its prudent to carry a few euros with you.
if you have a phone that can take it, download tom tom off a torrent site and install it. then buy a gps reciever off ebay for 20 quid. much cheaper and can use the receiver with other programmes too.
remember to sort the beam direction on your lights too and have fun in france its awesome.
