Sump funked?

i decided i would change my oil today.. and also over-tighten my sump plug and leave my bike dripping oil

I'm not sure whether i've shredded the thread on the sump.. or both.. but i'm ordering a new plug and washer.. i'll try the new washer without touching the sump first.. is there any non-permenant thread locking paste or anything i can use that will improve the seal and alos withstand the heat etc?
If i have dammaged the thread in the sump, would a helicoil insert do the job or would it just be easier to buy a whole new sump for it? Thanks, Tom.

A new sump is an easy option if you can find one at a sensible price.
Common repair is a threadsert or helicoil. Either CMS in Pinhoe or Exeter Motor Services in the City Industrial Estate, Haven Banks will be able to sort you out. Don't take a chance and bodge it - the last thing you want is for it to give way and dump it's oil over the back tyre whilst out riding - potential crash and blown engine at the same time

See what size thread the sump bolt is, then you can re tap the sump and use a larger bolt in it, for example if it's an M16 now then you should be able to re tap it to M18 and use a larger bolt in there, cheaper than having a Helicoil installed.
Personally I'm no fan of Helicoils, I always use Timeserts rather than Helicoil, I've had helicoils fail in the past, but I've only known a Timesert fail once and that was a very extreme example so doesn't really count.

To be fair tom the threads might have been screwed already. Unless you were using a 5ft bar to tighten it.

I've done the same matey it comes with experience. Learn by your mistakes and all.
I ended up buying a second hand sump for £20 i think it was but you will also need a new gasket and then for even more practice you got all those little sump bolts to tighten to the correct torque
Good luck mate with what ever you consider doing but don't bodge it like Mossey suggested its not worth it

I guess that they were funked before you got to it anyway then, unless you put the bolt in cross threaded.
