Just a quick word of warning about the back road from the newton trago roundabout to bickington to the newton ashburton road. As you go round a left curve approaching a right bend, the road is suddenly covered with chippings for about 2 miles. Definitely a bit of an

moment!! Not much warning especially if you are travelling at the (ahem) speed limit!!
Another good road knackered!!

i wrote to the council about this and this was there reply
"The stretch of road from Drumbridges roundabout to Bickington is a surface dressing site and work is currently in progress.
For your information what you have seen is a pad coat which is a thin layer of tar with 6mm chippings embedded in, in the next few weeks the another layer of dressing will be applied again using tar and chippings. Surface dressing is a cost effective alternative to surfacing and at no point compromises the safety of the travelling public. This process is heavily monitored and tested by our Materials Laboratory and this site has been agreed by Highway Engineers to receive this type of treatment. I have been informed by my Engineer today who drove through the site this morning that warning signs are erected at either end of the site"
all i can say is try riding it on a bike as it not much fun. just be careful on this strech of road for the next few weeks
