Sorry if this has been covered before, but you know those camera partnership vans.
Do they only clock you if you're coming toward them, or can they catch you going away from them too

towards you only normally, although there is a rumour theres a forward facing camera to catch bikes

Depends which way they are facing i suppose, if its the back windows is towards as you ride past then you might be ok, if its back window is facing away then it gets you as you go past.........

Think its time to invest in a plate flipper else privaplate thing.

I was going onto the A38 Exeter bound off Marsh Mills and spotted it on the other side of the carriageway

Ref plate flippers, I have a good story about those.

Some years ago a friend of a friend of mine had one fitted to his Thunderace.

Anxious to demonstrate it, he invited a group of us onto the camera infested A20 toward kent for a demo.

The idea was that as he got to the camera, he would press the button and the plate would flip up at that very moment, so off we went.

He held back behind us untill the point we reached a set of markers, and then belted past us in a red and white blur, and sure enough, got a double tap off the gatso.

There was only one problem, his number plate had not flipped up.

We all pulled over a bit further up at Paddock wood, where the news was broken to him.

Suddenly, the smug look was replaced with one of absolute terror as the implications of being caught at 150mph in a 50 zone started to sink in.

You could see the sweat pouring off him as he started to think, job, house, family etc, (he was a long distance lorry driver).

He was lucky and got away with it. The camera must have been in active at that time.

I'm a sensible rider and don't take chances, but guaranteed on the rare occassion I decide to let my bike off the lease so to speak, plod will be there

They can get you going both ways,

so excuse the pun, but Plod have got you coming and going...

i didn't know early 80's bikes went fast enough to worry speed cameras

The newer vans have front, rear & side cameras so you are recorded approaching, passing & leaving it from either direction

Just assume they can take you sideways from the front and the rear

Then no problem at all

skinza with the plate flippers its best to have them flip down flat, also to wire up a light so you know when you press the button that its in the down position can be done with a toggle switch this way you know if its working or not whilst riding, supose he could have gone back and burnt out the camera hope it was a film one not digital, he was lucky not to get caught.
