Hi all I'm back from my little trek down to Portugal! Boy who forgot to turn the sprinkler system off! Rode to work on Wed wished I'd brought my water wings  .
Any way down to business, one of the guys I work with is thinking of getting his CX 500 back on the road, but his problem is he declared it SORN about seven years ago but only did it the once and didn't bother again thinking thtas all he needed to do. Now he's worried when he tries to re tax it he's gonna get stung for 7 yrs tax. Any advice how he should proceed without being stung big time?

best thing would be to call them up and 'enquire' that way no names or reg details go public. I would say he will be fine tho.

I think at the time if you got a Sorn the bike was then recognised as being sorn for the next however many years until it was taxed again. So he should have nothing to worry about. Whereas now if you forget to sorn your bike and its not taxed the dvla send you a letter no matter what fineing you about £40 robbing scum that they are.

As has been mentioned already, best bet is to contact them & explain & keep your fingers crossed that you don't get the office jobsworth  :(

What if you have a track car or bike, which will never be used on Brittish roads, but only on private land and race tracks does that you mean you still have to sorn it.

If it was used on the road at any time and is registered then you have to sorn it every year, unless of course you fill in the v5 telling them its been scrapped and they cancel the registration i suppose, but then you wouldn't be able to put it back on the road without going through the hassle of reregistering or you can just do the sorn thing, it takes a few minutes,i think i did one of my bikes online last year, only took a minute to do............
