Hi all
Don't know what was going on yesterday but i thought i'd share this and maybe someone will know what they were up to.
I left my place yesterday morning at 07:30 I live practically on top of Roborough (xfab) roundabout, as i approached the round about a police bike with all the blues going joined the roundabout to my right from tesco roundabout. He then decided he would stop right in front of me blocking me to go onto the r/a
Anyway i looked up toward the right and seen something i'd never seen firstly it was a white marked BMW X5 police car and that was followed by at least 50 police bikes some marked some not all white with the hi viz etc, then to the rear of the pack was about 30 black bike's riders in orange hi viz and with AEG road safety stickers on the panniers!
So many of them they took up 2 lanes of traffic riding 4-5 abreast, And all followed by a police bike with is blues on.
They all went off toward Tavistock and then i was free to go about my way, most strange - any ideas?

Soooo, if the bike were for the Tour GB, why were they in Plymouth, seeing as the nearest to Plymouth the race got was Hatherleigh
As for being a total waste of space (I assume you refer to the bike race) - why so

Just 'cos you don't appreciate it doesn't mean it's not worthwhile ........ I personally can't understand the fascination of football, cricket, tennis or golf, nor see why so much time should be devoted to those sports on TV yet millions of others do. Each to their own

i agree mate but when they came through yeovil it was almost 5 police bikes to every 1 push bike its almost if the police were on a big jolly, unless prince charles was on one of the push bikes ,but im sure his ears would cause aerodynamic issues

I got passed on wednesday going up the a30/m5 by 4 police bikes followed by 7 guys on bmw mottorad sponsored gs thingies, all 7 were wearing a patch indicating they were members of the blue knights m/c club. i googled it to find out it was a official law enforcement m/c club. i guessed they were on some kind of charity run, lands end to johno or something similair. was kinda good to see but they were side by side with the cop bikes in front and i was doing 80 and they were pulling away from me quite happily

Was in the weekly paper that this week there was some kind of police charity ride
going from o groats to landsends i think, sounds like it could well have been that.

I actually watched the Okehampton stage of Tour GB and overheard one of the police riders saying they were staying in Plymouth because it was the only place large enough to accomodate them all together, they have been brought in from all over the country, and are junction marking just like you guys do when on a friendly rideout, and when you see the pace these guys (cyclists) ride at and do up to 114 mile stages you can understand why they need this many police bikes, as nothing must get in the way of the cyclists.

I missed the tour this year, but last year I stood by the side of the road, and was quite impressed at how the plod closed the roads 'just in time'. It's a skill to organise that kind of operation. The cyclists were spread out over a couple of mins, and as soon as the last team support car came past, the plod rolled on again.
I can't believe the attitude of some people about cyclists. As motorcyclists, we occupy about as little road space as they do, so there can't be an argument there. I would have thought some narrow minded drivers might say it, but people like us who have taken the red pill????
I hope you're trolling, Funky.
