This frightened me check your wheels folks

copied this from the RD forum one of members was out for a ride on hartside and well here is what he wrote
went up to Hartside Cafe but was stopped by a guy in a Hi-viz, police volvo and ambulance in the road ahead.
Chatted to the guy and there had been an off at the hairpin a chap on a ZX10R had come down the hill to the hairpin, braking hard AND THE SPOKES ON HIS FRONT ALLOY WHEEL SNAPPED!!
of couse this flipped the bike so he was a bit knocked about. The Ambulance was on the way to another incident over the top of the fell and was first on the scene so more blue lights coming up the hill, standing in the road and watched the Air Ambulance land, oh boy could that guy fly the thing (its the new one with a rotor less tail) parked it in the field next to the road to load the lad in and get him to hospital.
Up at the cafe they were collecting for the Air ambulance so chipped in.
I looked at the bike on the recovery truck and the spokes were snapped clean off at the rim, bit concerning on an 06 bike!

Very similar to the GSXR1000 cracked frames situ; any one can wheelie a big bike now and will see many ham-fisted landings, combine this with everything being parred down to save weight plus more rigid forks etc, something will give.
Doing wheelies on older FZRs/GSXR1100s/old ZX-10s required effort & skill, don't forget these older bikes had heavier wheels & softer suspension.

The early GSXR's - the F, G, & H models - were lanched with the "triple banana" wheels that you could actually bend by hand purportedly ...... that said they survived pretty well on my old Kat for many years with no problems ....
As with anything, you are bound to get the odd component failure - who knows the history of that bike ... previously crashed, kerbed, hit a large pothole, let alone the poorly performed wheelies a three year old could have been subjected to

there was a recall on Zx10 front wheels, not sure if it was 05 or 06 mind...
So my guess is either someone hasnt taken a bike back after a recall or they are running after market carbon/magnesium wheels...people put BST's and Marchesini's on road bikes and they really arent meant for bumpy pot holed uk roads...
and the k5/K6 GSXR frame thing is just an excercise in due dilligence a few ham fisted wheelies arent going to crack them - most of the recorded US cases where on stunt bikes that had been thrown down the road umpteen times, as far as I am aware there are no cases of it recorded in the UK. Although Im sure if you cartwheeled one on track at the wrong side of 120 or rode one into a dry stone wall whilst out on a sunday blast you might be able to manage it.

Wasn't there a gsxr owner in mcn recently who'd had something structrural break on his bike. There's definetly been a few uk cases just not as many as there's a lot less bikes on uk roads than us ones

The bikes were recalled in March, April, May 2005. I know cos my mate and my brothers business partner had just bought the new ZX10R. He was so worried about it that he chopped the bike in for a new GSXR 1000 as he was riding to the TT in Assen in June.
Whilst at Assen some idiot done a blind overtake and hit him head on and he died at the scene.
I remember the date as in the same week my marriage broke down and my Dad had a double heart attack!!!! Ritchie had leant me his car while he was at Assen. Not the best week of my life.

I'd be happy to pull a ham fisted wheelie on a big bike, leave-alone a ham fisted landing. Whats the secret ?
