Yes i do, you local to Exeter?

Put a split link in temporarily, to enable you to rise it to a place that has the correct tool and knows what they're doing. Don't do it right, and the chain will either separate or be too stiff ......either way if it lets go it could cause serious problems for you and the bike

Try CMS for both the split link, and to get the rivet link fitted properly. Do not be tempted to ride with the split link in for long .......

cms wont sell me a split link cos i didnt buy the chain from them! lol
and yeh i wouldnt risk it riding with a split link for long tbh

Can see if i can get one from work for you if you need one to last for a few days.

When your free i can always put in the proper link for you - the tool is in Okehampton at the moment so will need to go grab it!

Should have bought local .... It might cost a couple of quid more (and in fairness, their prices aren't too far adrift) but it's times like this when it more than pays for itself ;)

Yopu might save a couple of quid on the interweb (though not as much as you think, by the time you add postage sometines), but when you need something quick, or a little bit of extra help, it's very difficult for someone to do that via e-mail or phone.

The trouble is, if everyone buys via the internet, none of us will have local shops to help us when we're stuck. Support local business

I was chatting to Derek the other day, and they're undecided whether they make better money, andhave an easier life, just selling via the internet - and if thats the case, why keep the shop going? It'll be a sad day for local bikers if the shop does shut though - especially with the work friendly opening hours they have at present

might aswell get it done properly all at once if thats alright with you! I can wait til the tool is available im not in a rush tbh, im free every day but not wednesday n ill be doing coursework at home etc lol thanks ed!

im with you and i do alot my bike parts shopping from cms, however my mate bought a chain from them and he's done about a 1000 miles and it snapped off! they wont refund it for him or anything! so why would I put myself at the same risk again? would rather buy a proper chain from the internet, at least i will feel more confident when riding lol thanks

I do question, though, why your DID chain bought from a place on the internet would be significantly different in quality to the DID chain (530ZVM) fitted to my bike, bought from CMS two years ago Perhaps it wasn't so much the place, but the person buying the chain who influenced the quality in your mates case - did he just take the "cheapskate" option and buy the cheapest he was offered? Was it fitted correctly, by someone who knew what they were doing? did he look after it correctly - cleaning, lubing, adjusting, etc.?

CMS refuse to sell you a split link by itself. Marty had to buy a whole chain from there just for the split link.

I went in there on Saturday to buy a couple of split links and no problem at all. Left with 3. Like 2 quid each or something.. But there where just universal things, get u home etc When out mud monkeying ;)

It seems perfectly reasonable not to sell a spit link by itself for a specific chain as they are all different and it would mean breaking into another pack to get one? Doubt yu can get em seperatley anywhere
