llandow just round the corner and my 2001 R6 starts popping and banging!

This happens when I deccelerate, which i believe means i have a rich mix.

things ive done recently:

1) changed exhaust from standard can to 'bass cannon' which creates a bit of back pressure and sometimes the bike would conk out after winding throttle down (not sure thats relevant tbh but sticking all the details up)

2) Balanced the carbs with new exhaust on (when I did this carb 1 had a tube that was going straight to fresh air, not the first time ive heard this, i got rid of this and linked the carbs up with the blocking plugs in between, not sure if this tube to air is something that has been done by a mechanic to combat another problem like 'rich petrol mix' - dont know how to adjust this and not sure you can on this model?), no popping or banging at this stage

3) changed the oil filter and put the standard can (oversized rocket launcher) back on.

4) went out for a ride and the sounds of shotguns going off fill the air (probably not that loud tbh)

Any ideas guys and gals ? Cheers, appreciate any feedback

A free flowing exhaust will reduce back pressure, popping on decelration is usually associated with an air leak in the exhaust system. Get the bike on a dyno and have the A/F ratio checked to see what is going on, generally fitting a race can will alter the fueling across the rev range, so the fueling will need to be adjusted to suit.

thanks for the advice jam, im assuming if I put the sports can back on then it will stop, initially i wanted to check out the performance after balancing carbs with the two cans to see if there was a difference. Think it needs to go on the dyno anyway to see how everything is running, how much usually does it cost to tune at a garage, its a 2001 bike so no power maps,etc

You will still need a jet kit to sort the fueling out, and time to install and set it up. The R6 is a pain in the arse to work on as there is very little room. Generally with a jet kit, K&N filter and set up it's going to come in round the £300 mark.

Reckon I might leave it for the mo, had a blast this morning and it seems to be performing fine, bar the pop pop bang!
