Hello Peep's,
Just driven home to Tivy from Plymouth and saw a few Bikers (and a couple scooter prick's) wearing T-shirts, just wondered if they had magical invisy protection or if they had a magical cream that increases their skin thickness and pain threshold!? In fairness one t-shirter did have a body warmer on so I'm sure his core temp was just right!
Does anyone ever speak out to them about this or just look and think, why?!!?

You can only offer advice to those that ask. The rest can look forward to a bowl of detol, a scrubbing brush and a whole lot of pain as they are used in combination to remove road surface from whatever flesh they have left on their limbs.

Freedom of choice innit! One day they may regret it,maybe not. Personally, I'd rather have a covering of cow whilst I'm out riding,but if someone chooses not to thats down to them. Gravelrash from falling off a Grifter was bad enough . No different than cycle helmets,skateboard elbow and kneepads etc etc. I'm still alive after a childhood of none of these and riding down steep hills with no brakes,jumping down steps etc etc.

Been there before.... luckily the 10 pints i had before dulled the pain. ....

..... & before someone has a go, it was along time ago when almost everyone rode to a pub, got pissed & most times rode home unscathed.

I'm on the freedom of choice side by the way. I don't want to be told what i can or can't wear.

These peeps obviously not kissed the tarmac , before, so don't have a clue..& would never listen to any-one..

I go along with the freedom of choice--- ---If they come a cropper,it's no skin off my nose--knees--nuts--etc..
I wonder how long it will be, before protective clothing will be compulsory,?--either by government, or insurance companies ??.

I went for a ride with T-shirt (back protector underneath) and jeans (normal ones) motorcycle boots, gloves and helmet, 4 miles later turned around and got a jacket on, don't see the idea behind not wearing gear. Although when I had the Moped recently I wore hoody (moto x armor under), jeans, steel toe cap boots and jeans, lucky for me when I got hit from behind by a car I wore a textile jacket but wish I had my Draggin jeans on instead as I wouldn't have as bad road rash on my arse! Steel toe caps stopped me maybe losing toes or more and jacket stopped me from maybe breaking my spine. Always used to tell kids in T-shirts etc that if the worst happens you end up with scars and showed them mine with the proper kit and said it would've been worse wearing that!

Tis always an emotive subject, I have scars from 50cc days, jeans and Belstaff combo, guess where the scars are ;) . But also as a dyed in the wool old punk rocker, I have to agree on the freedom of choice argument. I would always tell anyone who asks to protect the hell out of your extremities, but otherwise you can only learn by your own experiences, including the painful ones

The days of the grit scrub are long gone, they use flamizine now. Amazing stuff. Ive noticed that silly season has started also.

I will go with freedom of choice as long as hospital bills and health professionals fees are paid by the casualty who chose not to wear protective kit. Oh, I'd also refuse any medication for the pain, and skin grafts.
And I don't like badgers, but thats another story.....

Nobody likes the idea of compulsion when it comes to riding gear and it should be down to the individual concerned, though numerous squids riding around in T-shirts and shorts don't appear to have the sense to do it... As mentioned, they've probably never fallen off before so haven't contemplated how much it'll hurt (though you don't exactly need to be Einstein to figure that it won't be pleasant do you?)
Sure, sitting in leathers in traffic when it's 30º can get a little uncomfortable, but not half as uncomfortable as multiple skin grafts, I'm sure.....
