Hi guys
Thinking about getting a go pro camera, anybody use one,expierence etc

had one, used one, sold one. nothing wrong with it i just didn't use it.


speak to dynamight, he as a had a few of them and has a top spec one atm. he can also tell you about the racechrono program you can marry up to it to get gps stats and speeds to go along with your footage.

I use a gopro hero 2, I really like it, great quality, really wide lens.

The shape can be a little hinderance sometimes, if your looking for helmet mounting predominately you might want to look at the drift hd's or a contour if you can find one. However I use mine, on the bike, car, mountain bike and quadcopter and is probably the best all round shape especially for things like chest mount and shallow mounting on cars etc.

Lots of mounts etc available for the gopro too, many on ebay that are cheaper than gopro branded stuff.

The new gopro 3 has more features again, including some with remotes, theres an app etc

Best bet is to scan the internet for reviews and comparisons and prices

The go pro is a very well performing camera,
The hero3 black is what we used and full 1080p 60fps so clear and smooth,
Built in blue tooth and wifi, and remote viewing through phone etc to make sure angles are right etc,

Very good bit of kit, but cost £350 new!!

I use the contour camera and much nicer as a helmet cam, (much more streamlined)
But unfortunately that company has shut it's doors for good,

But hear really good things about the drift cameras,
Atomic on here has one and really rated it,

Gonna use it on the bike and also when I'm on carp fishing sessions

I use the Drift Ghost HD, ( there is now the Ghost-S). I mount mine to my lids, so I prefer it to the Go Pro ( which incidentally gets great write-ups).
I had the Drift HD 170 and found it fiddly to use, a larger profile, smaller viewing screen and quality not as good. The Ghost has a much better remote control as well as being slightly more compact. I also like the video tagging, which means I can record something that occurred up to 5 minutes previous. The Ghost-S has 10 mins tagging and better fps at 1080p.

Prior to these I used a bullet cam, which if they had improved the quality I would have continued using them. Much better size although you have to carry a small pocket size recording unit / screen on the bike or on your person. There are cheap ones with a sd card, but they are cheap for a reason. The Contour is a quality version closest to this set-up and seems perfect if you don't want a screen to change settings or view footage quickly.

It really is down to how you want to mount the camera. I don't think there is a practical mount for the Drift for fishing purposes maybe a shoulder or chest mount ( which I haven't tried), but I think the GoPro and the Contour are better sized for mounting on the bike or on your person.

My advise would be to buy a cheap spy cam that you can hide on your bike. If you get stopped for doing 35mph in a 30mph zone and they spot your camera they can confiscate it and may find you were doing 150mph on the bypass and instead of a warning s**t hits the fan so to speak.
I paid a small fortune on a bullet cam and about £6 on a spy"lighter" cam and the difference in performance is hardly noticeable. The novelty soon wears off so start with a cheapy. You will need to pay a bit more to get a waterproof one and you would need a high speed SD card. Just plug it into a usb for playback.
The camera on a phone means you don't need a Nikon SLR to get a decent picture.
I recently fitted a reversing camera and monitor for someone on a motorhome which he bought for £20 and its better than the one I paid £250 for a couple of years ago.

I'd go for a different but similar camera, look for comparison articles online, get something with a better battery life

Used my go pro last year on the RTTB and the sodding thing was dead before we all had lunch!

True battery life is not amazing, however I bought some cheap batteries on ebay and take a couple of 16gb cards and that will last a whole day

I've had two Drift's and had nothing but issues. I can't really not recommend them though, as they're fantastic little cameras to stick on your lid and I'm the only person I can find who's had problems.

Just bought a Hero 3+ Black Edition with the money I got back from my Ghost-S, so hopefully I have more luck

I use Go pro hero 3 white and I love it. The time lapse and under water capability is awesome too.

I've just ordered a GoPro 3 and it's sitting at home now waiting for my return with a nice 64gb card.

If I am recording continuously, how long will the battery last and how much footage will a 64gb card get?

The 64gb card has more memory than your battery will last. I think I normally get about 2hours worth of recording from mine. On a side note, I Just received a chest and head harness too. The chest harness fits on the dog conveniently as well.

I just ordered some spare batteries, so now have a total of 5 hours recording time and a spare 64gb card.
