Thruxton Powerbike Race

Good day at Thruxton on Saturday. Was looking forward to racing there.

Surprised myself with 7th out of 40 in the first Powerbike race in the wet. Can’t get over riding flat out on a wet track. Over a ton in the wet with your knee down and winding on hard takes a bit of recalibration of your brain.
Only 3 seconds a lap slower than the dry race. First wet race and still only my 6th event.

Not quite as good in the afternoon in the dry. Bit of a poor start and a rear tyre was very second hand and wanted to let go . Didn’t quite get my 100mph average lap. (99.04mph)

My brother had a Zephyr 6, dad had a Vauxhall Cresta, I had an 88 Domi. We all had a 3.5 mile bit of pre m-way (which later became a little piece of the M5) and no speed limit.
Sunday mornings was a drag meet. Mk 2 Jags, Bonnies, A10s etc. Oil everywhere, bits of blown engine everywhere, and all trying to do a 'ton'. Bonnets up and loads of steam and smoke
Round a bend, in the wet, on a bike, knee down...it ain't me babe. Respect ? Yeah. Want to try...NNNOOO. [-x
