hi all, nice meeting up with some of you at the walkabout today. hope to catch you at the next meet. gonna be riding my gixxer 600 all winter... a change from my drz400. and need some serious tyres but cant seem to find any to help me stay upright (ish). would really like a road legal version of the metzeler racetec rain? anybody got any ideas? perhaps i should just go for avon trailriders, but not sure of grip against power of gixxer. i guess i could always slow down but it gets bl***y cold and i wanna get warm again. all joking aside i would like to survive this winter and with the state of our A roads in the rain i need to do something soon. cheers all rob

In my limited wet roads riding, I've found Michelin Pilot Power 2ct's quite confidence inspiring. A couple of other people I know really rate the Michelin Pilot Road 4's.

PR4 ... or a few bob cheaper PR3.

I'm currently riding with the m5 and they are really good in all conditions, and on my CBR 600 I used to ride with the battlax bt-023's and they are equally as good in all conditions and both pairs are good when dry and on a spirited ride

Tried various makes but always end up coming back to Bridgestone for my GSXR. Currently using BT021's as I get them cheap from my local dealer ;) . Good dry grip, great wet grip and decent wear rate on my old bus that eats tyres usually .

thanks for all the input, am looking for a set of avon pro xtreme, but it looks like they stopped making them. anyone tried supermoto tyres like the Dunlop Sportmax Mutant? cheers rob

Go for metzler M7rr's I know Gee really rates them on his speed triple and does road riding in the rain.

As they are the tyre designed for the TT you cant go wrong really.

Doubt they come in the right sizes. Michelin Pilot road 3 probably be my choice ( good price now,quick warm up and good grip) and usually gets good reviews on most bikes.

As you seem fairly confident on the tyre you want but they are no longer produced why not email Avon and ask what they've superseded the old tyre with. Then you can visit your local bike shop and tell them what you are after and what they can supply you with, if not that actual tyre then something similar from another company. I'd always go and ask what deals my local bike shop are doing, keep supporting the small guys before they all disappear!

+1 on that for a good winter tyre that also likes to play.

I used to run PR2s for my gizzer 600 and they were good in all weathers but I didn't get to try M7s on the gizzer but am running M7s on my ZX and they are the best tyre I have had.
However, I haven't ridden much in the rain on M7s, only short trips and they seemed good.

I would say PRs are great for wet weather but M7s are better for spirited riding.

Me too. Use them all the time on my Ducati. Its noticeable when I'get back on the Ducati after I've been riding my KTM, which has Dunlop Roadsmart 2s fitted, how much more quickly the Metzelers warm up and how much stickier they feel (and the Dunlops are good tyres).
