I knew nothing about this. Ironically, Telegraph Hill is the one place my (70mph) speed limited van will exceed 70mph!

I see the cameras are at the top of Telegraph hill, top of Haldon Hill, at Splatford Split, and somewhere near Partridge cycles. It only affects the East (Exeter) bound carriageway. I could find no date for proposed introduction, only that work started first week of April and was set to last 2-3 weeks.

I am surprised at the distance between the 2 cameras
Normally if a true average speed camera they need to be closer together for accuracy due to lane changes and corners. If you consider all the different lines this effects distance and therefore average speed.....

That said not looking to test it :-o

I did wonder if there was soon to be road works or if this is a new feature to slow people down going down the hill.

Has been there a while but hey have not put a camera on top of it yet. Also notice that there is a camera on the A38 side to catch people coming from Plymouth positioned in the same place as the old Gatso camera used to be just as the A38 and the A380 come together

I wouldn't be surprised if another start point was added at Ide and the system finished after Sowton Jct 29.

Won't be set to bang on 70 anyway, probably 77mph or more and you'd have to be showing a bit more than that on most speedos. A couple of corners won't make much difference in such a small distance.

None on all the Gatsos that have now been turned off (in Somerset at least)

60mph speed limit for most vans on a dual carriageway, (which I'm sure you mostly stick to ;) ) . The camera vans on the A303 DC bits heading towards the southwest love catching the VW T4 and T5's at 70 as they head towards the sun and beaches for their summer breaks.

I have it in writing from our transport people that my Berlingo is recorded as a CDV (car derived van) on its registration form. It is therefore quite legal to do 70mph on a dual carriageway (with centre median)

I did say most vans as unsure what you had. Not that many CDV's around nowadays.

It's a strange one - the original Berlingo wasn't CDV because the van came before the car, but they've changed the definition of a CDV subtly, and the newer variant is now CDV. Strange.

Back 10 years and the only few vans of that size that had a 60 limit was the Transit Connect lwb and the Caddy. Learnt the hard way but now the 1.9 Fiat Doblo pre 2006 facelift was but the 1.3 wasn't. It's all bullshit anyways now as most vans stop better that cars. It's about time they sorted it out cos why should the bigger van drivers have to stay at the same speed as the hgv's on single and duel carriageways. Really boils my pee. X(

Yep, needs updating. At least everything upto 3500kgs ought to be at car speed limits regardless of how its classed. If its safe for a 3 ton camper van to be travelling at normal limits, its ok for a medium sized van to be doing the same.

It's OK as most t4/t5 now are converted to car or motor home on the logbooks now which revert back to class 4 or car motorway/dual carriageway speeds.

But then it's always the grey area. Seen the camera points today but the nice thing is from Kenn ford across there is only one camera pile, (no camera yet) by the orange elephant. So if you come on at kennford and gun it is still OK.

Can see it being a good point though as splatford split is an accident hot spot as people travelling to fast and too close and or little attention.
