Interesting new development policing small number plates

I have just seen on facebook someone got nicked for small plates twice and he reckons the police reported him to DVLA who retracted his reg number and issued a q plate for his bike , anyone else heard of this, just read it again and it seems 2 people have had it happen

Probably more to the story. They can retract if they are illegally spaced or misrepresented

Got to say that i read this on Facebook as well. Not too fussed as have the normal size but interesting. The post I read suggested that I would now also be an MOT fail if not to the correct size.

It's all a farce as I'm yet to hear of anyone getting away with a camera not picking them up cos the plate was too small. Less hassle in going without a plate completely.
Can't see any point in withdrawing a plate & re-issuing a Q plate unless it's a cherished/non-aging one?
It's great to see them focusing on the high priority policing matters ......

Q plate has massive effects on resale value.

'Illegal' plate has always been an mot failure (i thought).
I suppose the usual drop in value is what they consider to be the punishment.
I must admit i don't like small/letter box plates on my bikes, it makes me think it gives them a reason to pull you over. But i do think they look better.

Failing an MoT due to a small plate is very much down to the discretion of the tester - my 990 SuperDuke had a small plate pass 2 MoTs without comment in Newbury but was failed on it when in the South Lincs Badlands. Maybe they knew that the local plod were hot on the issue so they were saving me a fine...
There’s a notorious plod around here who stopped a member of the Wilts Bikers forum one day and actually measured the size of the characters on her plate before issuing a ticket.. he is reknowned as being a total cnut, giving the usual “I’m a biker too...” crap before dishing out a ticket for the most trivial of infringements (the sort of thing that any other copper would just have a quiet word about)

Got a ticket to get it changed. After he second ticket i gave up and went back to the double line plate but slightly smaller than standard.
go catch a real criminal, instead of looking for revenue.

I take the simplistic view on all this i.e. Why draw attention to yourself?
If you HAVE to have miniscule flashers, a tiny numberplate and/or repositioned letters and digits, ultra loud pipes etc. or want to stand out from the herd with no headlight on (I know, that's a contradiction in terms but I'm sure you get the gist) and/or inconsiderate riding then fine, go ahead, suck up any consequences.
