Thats exactly what we are saying, the last ride had around 52 bikes and as we left the car park Bambam pulled out and stopped the traffic so we all left together, exactly the situation you just described you great steaming lump of knobcheese, it keeps us all together and the people in thecars that were held up were smiling when i went past at the spectacle of it all....................

Bear in mind that unless you have special dispensation, stopping traffic on the road is illegal and can get you prosecuted.

Fine if you get away with it, but do it on front of plod and you'll get nicked.

The thing to do here, is slow down - stop - check the crossing is clear of pedestrians - have a scan around for plod, and go.

I did know plod was there, was a bike cop following behind me, and yes I was ignorant of the law that said don't overtake lead vechicle (not now!!) but did slow down, scan for pedestrians.. u just said it's not illegal if 'queue is not caused by crossing' SO why would I need to 'have a scan around for plod'??

Because you intended to overtake the lead vehicle.

It's perfectly safe provided you have established there are no pedestrians, but it is technically illegal, and you will probably get a fixed penalty if tugged.

When you overtook the lead vehicle, was the road ahead clear, or did the queue continue ?

If the road was clear, then the queue was caused by the crossing, but if the queue continued passed the crossing, then the queue was not caused by the crossing, but by the volume of traffic

Fair Enough! I had drunk a bit too much last night and thought what he said was wrong but it doesn't realy matter as bike cop was nice enough to just give me a warning and now I personaly won't be doing it again!! 'nuff said!

Well you could always look up what the law is if you think I am wrong.

Easy to find.

It's not a top secret document.

Back in the early 90's, (before most of you even contemplated a bike), I was an instructor and this was one of the most commonly asked questions by students.

Filtering is such a grey area and a lot of people are unsure about the law on this.

By the way, a bit of trivia for you.

Because you took your test in 1985 doesn't mean a thing.

For all I know, you may have ridden a year or two, then packed it in till recently.

So have you actually been riding all that time, or like most, did there happen to be a break of 10-15 years ?
