is anyone else on here booked up to go to donington on may 19th, im thinking about it as theres a few of my mates from padstow going so thought i'd ask the question on here too

right i'll be booking this up tomorrow and will have space on my trailer for one more bike

will be staying in the melbourne view hotel ( well i am,lol ) so allow extra cash for your own bed for the night

Well the day started off slowly with 2 guys taking each other out on the first lap of the day at foggy esses, 3 lap no overtaking and 1 idiot t-boned the other causing a red flag after 1 lap,not much time to get dialled into a new bike. did go out again for about 3 laps which helped

second session was going well and the bike was handling well,tyre was getting little chewed as the rear shock was setup for a short skinny guy and not someone as manly as me but all was good. was finding it really easy to turn the bike tight out of coppice and hammer down the back straight ( minus the dunlop bridge ),braking was good and the bike accelerated better than i expected for a old 600 handling was good and i was getting confident,hell i was even passing peeps on the brakes which is unusual for me, another plus was no pain from the right knee that was operated on last year. all was going well and much fun and banter had been had.

third session was going really well for the first few laps,was getting really confident and loving the emptyish track (it wasnt full in any groups which was nice) which was getting me into a nice smooth rythmn or so i thought. was having a play with my mate on his zx10r and a guy on a gsxr750 (i think) and was enjoying myself. i caught up with another one of my mates on his r1 exiting redgate,pulled a safe pass on him down craner whilst chasing the guy on the gsxr and tipped into the old hairpin and acclerated away after gixer guy, this is where the fun started i nicked it up into 4th gear and chucked it into the left handed starkeys (my favourite corner at donington),maybe i chucked it into hard or too quick as all i felt was the back end slowly start to slip away,it was really slow motion in my head. i tried to push it back up on my knee but didnt have the strength as the rear was too far gone and away from my abilities to save myself from some serious damage, those of you who have ridden donington will know this corner is taken around the 125mph mark. i decided the best thing to do was let go of the bike and let nature take its course,as i rolled and rolled i thought i was a goner or at least going to be seriously injured as i think i probably did 7+ barrel rolls and ended up in the grass on the outside of the corner,all i can remember was seeing sky,tarmac,sky,tarmac,sky,tarmac,sky,grass,sky,grass etc and coming to stop thinking where the hell am i with stars in my eyes and feeling rather dizzy. its suprising how your survival instincts kick in,i remembered to get my arms in to my body which helped save any arm breaks although my shoulders and muscles are very sore now 24hrs have gone by. i got up and walked a very dodgy line to the trackside whilst trying to look for my bike which was nowhere to be seen. once my sight came back i could see it 200yds further up the track resting against the tyre wall and assumed the marshall put it there before coming to me but no thats where a riderless bike that uprighted itself after i'd come off ended up going on its own steam i was pleasantly suprised to see the condition the bike was in considering how far it had travelled on its own and more chuffed that the onboard tank camera was still recording.

i do feel lucky to be here today after this one,the paramedic never expected me to get up as he was sure i would have been unconscious when he got to me if not worse. my mates though it i was a gonner and were heading upto the medical centre to wait for the ambulances to arrive when they saw me onboard the bike in the recovery trailer,they too were gobsmacked as they thought i was out cold. i believe this was down to the gear i was wearing,my arai lid is scuffed but stayed in one peice and protected my head and stopped me damaging my brain (any more than it already is ), my leathers have rips on the arms but i never broke the skin or lost a drop of blood. my left boot has had the stitching ripped away from it but my foot is fine,the right boot is still in one peice and im sure if i had cheaper boots on i would have smashed my right ankle into a fair few peices as it is im sat here now with no broken bones just bad bruising and swelling from when my foot took the impact of my landing before the rolls started. my back protector worked its magic as i have no injuries at all to my back and would highly recommend one to anyone,in fact i will always swear by the better gear as im suprised by how little injury i have. i was very pale whilst sat in the medical centre and was getting some dizzy spells and blurred vision which soon passed by. there was another guy in there who highsided a r1 a lap after me at coppice who had blood dripping from his arm,his old ogk helmet was smashed into peices and he didnt have a clue what was going on or where he was which made me feel better about my condition.

no warning mate,it just went. first time ive ever torn the left side of a tyre up and only in the 3rd session

walked away fine due to the adrenalin,once that wore off i was fooked

nah the bike will be fine mate, got all the spares in a box somewhere

my body on the other hand is another story,every muscle is aching like ive never felt before

need all new gear too before pembrey as nothings reusable
