Keep Britain tidy! (ZZR battery)

Post by Dylan »

Life sucks sometimes and just when I thought things could not get any worse - THEY DID!

I went to Newton Abbott for couple of appointments at hospital, bike went great, the longest ride I've done on it yet, so I wait around for hours before and during then get it all out the way, leave at 5pm to go home and the battery is clicking - merd! It has never happened since I had the bike, all has been tiptop. So I bump it down the hill and all seems fine.. I get half hour down the road on a very busy A38 Parkway and it dies, all power goes. The battery is flat, it smells funny and is leaking a bit from the drain pipe (I'm guessing that is why it's there)?! Bumbing the bike didnt work this time.
I've ordered a new battery, but should I be looking at a rectifier as well?
I was stranded in this layby from 5:45-10:45pm wondering what the f**k to do because nobody could help me out, untill my sis grabs this guy in a van at a petrol station in St Austell and my dad gives him some notes to pick me up! (Near Paignton)
I did contemplate dumping the bike and walking to the nearest train/bus station
I did abide by the rules though, but couldnt resist taking this pic - very appropriate I thought at the time!

It sounds very much like the Reg/Rec has gone down and has overcharged the battery and boiled of the acid leading to a very sulphury eggy smell. you'll need a new reg/rec which is around £60 from electrex, and a new battery.
