100% agree mate... Judging by what Speedy said Glen was going too fast for that road (as do we all) and as for the Mr Teem vid, I watched it over a few times with Leroy and that's what we thought.jason wrote: the problem with motorcyclists is that we like to think its never our fault - its always those damm car drivers or bad luck. Although In reality most of it is down to us. and that vid of mr teem crashing on the A38 on the other thread, I might be wrong here but that looks very much like he crossed lanes in front of that car whilst slowing . Yet our instant response is to think "damm car drivers".
Please help...

It can take far less than you think for a bike to go into a tankslapper - remember we don't all exclusively ride brand new gixxersjason wrote:but I still maintain that the real lesson is not crashing in the first place.
bikes dont just go into tankslappers due to bad luck.
Presuming your bike is well maintained and isnt running with a blown fork seal or something...
You have to motoring over bumpy roads with the front end loaded or hit some pothole or obstacle - or you you cross your front wheel up landing it from a wheelie or crested bump/hump in the road.
in short they can be avoided. Thats where the real lesson here should be.
I know from expereince that even loading a bike with luggage in a different way can be enough to cause it to go into a tankslapper on a bend where it has previously handled fine.
I do think you're right that bikers are too quick to blame car drivers tho instead of looking at how we could avoid accidents ourselves.
I have no idea what caused Glens bike to go into a tankslapper but it could be something a lot more subtle than people appreciate.
Anyhow hope he makes a full and speedy recovery.
so it turns out.........sometime i do give a f*ck
andrew I can see where your coming from but unless i am very much mistaken the bike is an srad gixxer 600.
and it may not have a damper but if its well maintained and not daftly set up that is definately not a tankslapper prone bike.
the original description of this accident to me read as a crossed up wheel after panicking getting a bit of front wheel lift over a bumpy crest at speed - I would wager you a round of ale that it was something that should and could have been avoided.

These are Tank Slappers.
The 1st was in a race and the 2nd is pulling a wheelie.

Please tell me that only happens if you are going a wee bit quick or pulling bloody wheelies!

nope - pulling slowly out of a junction and giving it a wrist full before you straighten up will slap you...Gandy wrote:speedy(delboy) wrote:These are Tank Slappers.

all it can be is the rear wheel losing traction and the suddenly getting it back...
however there are many other ways of inducing a slapper...
