split inlet rubbers

Post by chris_1127 »

any suggestions for fixing split inlet rubbers (carb-block side)? Its off an old gilera so the parts are pretty much impossible to get hold of so cannot replace them. Worst case scenario was going to have stubs machined up to bolt on to the manifolds then connect to the carb with hose and jubilee clips, but just wondering if anyone had any ideas for bonding/fixing the old ones? Its a big single so lots of vibrations, so needs to be quite a hardy repair.

Silicone Gun on the splits. Duck tape and zip ties over the top ;)

Is it a Nordwest or something older than that?

The reason I ask is that Gilera may have obtained such parts from other suppliers and may be shared with something like the Rotax engine - may be wort speaking to Sportax / Sportex who I think are Devon based as they specialise in Rotax & other singles.

Was just talking to a friend who has a Nordwest & he suggested Bob Wright at WSM.
Another name was a chap called Benjy AStraw who ran a business called WeeVee - they used to specialise in Morini (hence the name) but did start dealing with Gilera - probably 10-15 years ago.

my DR350 also a viby single has split its carb boot like yours and i'm thinking about plastic welding it back together, ie running the soldering iron over it to close up the gap but tired a bit today and it wasnt melting like plastic,

might blow touch a peice of metal and use that to "weld" it
