Pay ranges from about £7.50 to £8.30/hr for Class 2 work (Agencies), Class 1 work around £9 - £11/hr depends who your with. After 8 hours & Saturdays time & half. normally guarantee 8hrs.

ADR licence or HIAB ticket add another £1 to £2/hr.

Buy your own tractor unit (2nd hand £10k to £30k) owner drivers get up to £1700/week trunking work out of the docks!!

hope this helps

Or work on bulk tippers i have done for the last 5 years and earn £8.00 per hour and work your saturdays for flat rate. i drove distance for over 10 years and got out of it last year and went building, home every night got time to my self and earning just as much a week, sod driving any more the fun has gone out the job its all push push now. I do miss the life but no way would i work for the hours i was for the money i was on anymore....

As you know i'm on 7.5 ton multidrop.

Prob a bit small to what your after.

I do on average 70/80 drops and 20/25 collections a day around Exeter.

TNT pay is about £9 an hour but i do about 60 hours Mon/Fri and it ain't easy work.

I prob do have one of the better runs though and it is nice being out and about alll day then stuck in a office.

I know what you mean. I hated it when i was a mechanic for 7 years being stuck in side the same shell all day with management watching my every move and breathing down my neck.

Thought about doing my class 1 as the Trunk drivers i know are on great money for the little work they do. But then again i would hate driving up and down the motorway everyday at 56mph bored stiff.

But be warned all, new law coming in. All vehicles over 3.5 ton are going to be limited to 56mph. Its going to be a traffic jam out there.
