Major electrics HELP

Post by Blimey »

My track toy

CBR 600 FT 1996

At Pembrey the starter switch packed up. Could of been bad connection anyway sorted that but whilst doing this i have blown something somewhere.

Does anyone know of someone who is willing to have a look at my bike and sort out the state of the electrics.

It is a mess otherwise i would have a go myself. The fuse box has been BYPASSED so no fuses except the starter solenoid one and all you can see is insolation tape.

I have not got a live feed going to the starter switch and can't trace wires back to anything recorniseable to the manual.

May decide to start from scratch with a new wireloom and get rid of the cosmetics wires ie lights etc. Any idea of price for one of these??

Need this sorted soon so anyone know please and cheap would be great for loom or help.

BE WARNED ITS A REAL MESS, SO NOT SIMPLE TO SORT

Hopefully farther inlaw is putting electric in tomorrow. But as reliable as well you can guess.

Not got a multi meter or a proper test light (only home made stuff)

Would appreciate the help but i am truly warning you mate it ain't normal by all means.

I reckon it needs starting from scratch.

Si will let you know how the electric goes first mate.

Mark, Tony from the site does complete re-wires on bikes, maybe worth asking him for some advice if Si cant help or it doesnt work out.

Re-wire it, you shouldnt have that many electrics as it is. I re-wired some of my ZXR. It aint too bad.
Look at a wiring diagram, work out the wires you need, and off you go!

easiest way is to sit down with wiring diagram and just break it down into smaller circuits

just a generalisation

ignition circuit will be relatively simple, wires from pickup to the cdi, (2 or 3) then there will be switched power, earth etc to the cdi, also possibly direct or via another unit sometimes combined in the fusebox the clutch and sidestand switches.

starter circuit is sometimes linked in with the cdi on some models, usually as part of the cut out switch etc, but thats real simple

charging circuit is also simple, depending on the type of generator

cut off the plugs form the original loom with as much wire as possible, usually means unravelling the nasty sticky tape, but this way should you need to refer to it in the future, or anyone else work on it, not only are the colours correct, but the electric boxes remain plug and play

charging circuit

ignition circuit, fused

starter circuit fused, probably got a fuse in the solenoid,

thing that worries me about it is to check that theres no immobilisor in the ignition switch etc, or are you wanting that left on the bike

some bikes mainly kwaks in my experience have 100 ohm resistor in the barrel, ZRs ZXR's etc, no wiring diagram will show what its for, but without the right resistance the cdi wil either fry or just not work

Delboy rung me today but I was busy at the track, I am really busy but Im willing to give you as much info and help as possible

maybe if you got the wiring diagram, mail me a copy, .pdf etc and I could work you out the looms as described above, prefer to work hands on but this might help you.

all sorted the bikes booked in to see the Dr and be fixed :)

please remember to check it and make sure that its all working before you fetch it up to me,

avoids any worries about cdi etc, that lack of fuses and the pop noise you mentioned has me concerned, but so long as it al works when you drop it off, then we both know where we stand :)

oh and when you come to my house, dont drive past delboy, he probably sell you something you dont need LOL

see ya couple of weeks time

HMMM right then, come and get it back LOL LOL

first up are you aware that the ignition isnt a cbr system, its an aftermarket system, vance and hines power pack

wasnt aware that the RNIB did motorcycle electrics wiring courses LOL

oh and the reason non e of the staer circuit etc was working is that the tank had rubbed through the wiring and was shorting it all out, amazing that it didnt melt the wiring loom

What you have just told me means nothing at all to me. :?

Sorry mate. Never realised about the ignition system not being a CBR one.

Is it going to be a pain to do or not??

You still ok about the job??

Never heard of Vance and Hines  Is this good or bad??

LOL

yeah all still good, just a bit different

the system looks like its a mappable one.

probably not going to be able to do the complete new loom that I planned, but the loom will certainly be far better, tidy and working :)

theres a fair few things been changed on that bike, the air box connections have been altered, and it looks like the servo for controlling the flaps in the airbox are not in use??
