how to post large items?
im soon going to be putting my wheels and fairing on ebay and have no idea about the posting side of it.
what courier services could i use in the plymouth area and how do i go about doing it?
i take it i phone them up,tell them where i live and where i want it delivered and i pay the driver or use my card details over the phone?
will the wheels have to be boxed or can i give them to the courier as they are?
any idea how much it would cost to send a set of wheels and a whole fairing set??

I used a company called Parcels 2 Go
http://www.parcels2go.com
It cost me £50 to have a box 4 ft x 4 ft x 2 ft with all the fairings, Tank, and wheels to Cardiff in Wales.
Their moto is "Size Doesnt Matter"
And they collect from you, which is a bonus.
You will find they all have to be boxed or at least wrapped somehow, and you will pay up front before the items are collected mate.
Mind you, The Normal Post Office will take wheels as well, I have sent wheels with tyre on, will look to see how much it cost me and let you know a little later

I found it difficult to get a large box as well, that box the wife is in, is one we made from 4 large flat pieces we got from a local food store.watters wrote:nice one cheers chaps, loving the pictures haha.
so I'm guessing it would be cheaper to send one large box rather than a few medium sized ones?
not sure where i can get hold of a box big enough to fit all the fairings and tank in
I would say it was cheaper to do one rather than a lot of box's yes.

For boxes and bubble wrap at reasonable prices, and in a variety of sizes, try your local Crown self store:
Crown Self Storage (Plymouth)
12, St. Modwen Road, Plymouth, Devon PL6 8LH
Tel: 01392 445445
I paid about £6.00 for one big enough to send a pair of TLS side fairings in
Failing that any decent removals firm should be able to let you have a "wardrobe" box.

i used a company in saltash up on the industrial estate by jd racing, theyre based behind the cycle shop. dhl quoted £230 for 4 alloy wheels i'd sold on ebay, parcelexpress( i think but check yeloow pages ) collected them and delivered them for £45, they use vans labeled up with certini cycles on the side, i put carboard around the outside of the wheels and taped it up and they were fine with that. hope it helps.

i'd be a bit cautious of using parcel2go tbh - I used to use them a lot a couple of years ago but they turned into a useless shower of shit in the end - one of the couriers they use dropped and broke a £500 bass amplifier, then the driver forged my signature to say I had recieved it and was happy with it. then, because parcel2go are an intermediary company rather than the courier themselves, the insurance payout took months too.
Out of the last 4 collections I ordered from them, only one was picked up the specified day too - two of the others were at least 3 days late being collected. just my experience with them, but I wont use them any more.

Re: how to post large items?
Parcel force are ok and they pick up from your house too - but can cost abit.
If it were something big, or fragile (or both!) then i would use a same day courier (such as Westexpress - 07977916087), as they use just one courier for your parcel, so you know it will be ok !
