was getting geared up to drive to work this morning when i got a call from somerset and avon's finest. At first i was a little nervous thinking i was in trouble for something

but it turns out some chav f*cking scum had stolen my bike and taken it for a joy ride. They cut the chain attached to the lampost and disk lock. I'm speaking to someone about getting the CCTV footage but i doubt it'll show anything. They've found the bike but i dont know what condition its in, im hoping just electrical damage from the hotwire.

I live in studnet accomadtion so the only person who could know where my bike is parked, either is a student, or is mates with one. Time to get vigilante and lay down some justice

Somtimes local councils will have access to CCTV rather than police. Call Devon County Council or wherever it is you live and they should at least hand over some footage to watch as per Freedom Of Information act.

i live in student flats on uni campus and there are more cctv cameras than in the big brother house and hollywood combined. There is no way anyone can get to my bike without going past cctv, and there is a camera pointed right where they nicked it from, so there mus be footage of something.

Contact the student union or those that organise halls and student housing, they should have some info for you or contact for the security cameras. If students stuff is getting nicked then it's not good duty of care from the uni.

The city council will help you out and make sure you get a report number from the police so you can chase it up. Let us know how you get on.

you will be lucky to get any footage... Every time i have tried to get footage (smashed shop window, car broken into twice) they have told me the camera want recording or that it was pointed another way

i'm going to try and see what i can get, but as i've got the bike back, i dont think anyone will do anything. They cut all the locks off so they knew what they were doing, i dont they did anything as stupid as to leave their face or number plate exposed, but you never know.

I finally got through to someone at the impound. All the electrics are bummed from being hot wired (dont know how they undid steering wheel lock though) front smashed in. He couldnt tell me too much as he didnt know anything about bikes but said the headlight and mud guard were broken. Which hopefully means he crashed and hurt himself

but i reckon the forks might be bent if he hit something head on. and i reckon its been dropped so plenty of little dents and scratches.

I suppose the positive you can take from this is that you have the bike back.

Someone tried to break into my car in the local car park once. I spotted, the following morning, that the lock barrel had been smashed in with a screwdriver. There was no CCTV to draw on so I spoke to the neighbours and it turned out some of them had the same thing happen to them. I contacted the local MP with letters of the local residents, including yours truely and hey presto, the lobby for CCTV installation went ahead.

I can now park my car in the local car park without the worry I had before.

Basically what I'm trying to say is, if you feel strongly about it, maybe you should contact someone who can do something about it. If a local MP wants to be favourable, they'll listen to strength in numbers.

but seriously, it does work. It just depends how much you want to do something about it. You could just sit back until it happens to someone else.

When I was about 19 I had a z400 twin. Some basterds nicked it from the road side outside my house. I'm normally pretty good about locks and stuff but only had the ignition/steering lock on. I went out to put it in the garage AND IT HAD GONE. Walked down the road and found it. Seems they didn't know how to start or ride it.

The police got involved and I found out it was kids who couldn't be botherd to walk home. They broke into my mums friends car about half a mile up the road and she caught them.

The copper came around with a screwdriver that they had used on my ignition lock and it fitted. They had to pay the cost of the damage.

2 points. 1)Ignition/steering locks aren't that great. 2)You might get a result on this so don't give up.

sorry to drag a old post up mate must say i feel for you very much on this one its bloody horrible when thieving scum steal from people who work for a living , had my one bike of mine a couple of years ago nicked it was a cg125 nothing special went out in the morning it had gone walked down to the car park and it was chucked against the wall with number plate smashed off tank kicked in etc pissed me right off. thing is that must of been idiots all you need to do on the cg is disconnect the black wire of the ignition barrel and it'll start with the key needless to say after that my next bike (tzr) was kept in the alley way by my house locked up. hope you got it sorted mate

not really at all, the insurance company are just messing me about, so not only do i lose my bike, i now lose 2 years/nearly 3 no claims, excess of £210, and the fact they have said the bike isnt worth the value its insured for, so im losing loads of money and dont have transport till i can afford another bike, so i have to hitch to work (7 miles) every day. So basically really made a [Censored] mess of my life financially just because some small minded b'stards wanted a joy ride for one nights, and im paying for it over months if not years. I cant believe it, i feel so [Censored] abandoned by the system the fact im penalised for have MY BIKE stolen.

will the insurance company not allow you buy the bike back mate , best thing to do is to keep hassling them so they hurry u with your payout chap once again i really do feel for ya chap hope it all sorts itself out

not much point in buying it back as its a write-off, so would cost too much to get it back in working order anyways. oh well, shit happens as they say, i keep telling myself that. Just going to keep my head down and keep working, im working 7 day weeks at the moment so i can buy a new bike, god dam i just want a nice bike for summer
